Hansons Sovereign Auction

Recommended Posts

Having had a quick look at the selling prices and fees, the seller would have got about £215 with fees paid or if a deal was done without fees, they would have received on average £290 per sovereign.  Lets hope it was sovereigns from many sellers rather than from one probate sale.

With 311 sovereign sold at average price of £290, that is a massive loss to the estate if it is probate.

Why are people so quick to want to get the cash when with a little research could obtain a much better price.

Sometimes its the family arguing over the money,So they just want fast cash.

Saw four family members on one show that didn't want to leave the item to one.So ****ed around and sold this thing for like £100.

They wanted their cut even out of that lol :P

Prices were about the right number for buyers when you add on the premiums

If it is an estate sale, remember, anyone who benefits…. cost them nothing!🤔🫢 (still a little stupid though)😮

Which is why you should always instruct your family with clear instructions of what to do with your collection should the worst happen.

A possible thing might be to entrust a trustworthy fellow forum member to help a relative to sell a collection. Be that to just advise or even help them sell.

Lots to think about and many variables, of course, but it’s a possibility for many forum members.

It would surely remove the headache from the family and ensure that the forum members collection went for the right price to the right person.

Imagine having or being left a collection and not knowing:

A: What it’s worth.

B: It’s rarity.

C : How best to sell it.

Remember, your interest isn’t necessarily your family’s interest.

£340 plus com, so about £445. These Auction houses tend to charge about £18 postage on top unless you are local and can pickup.

I know Lizzie at Lockdales as I often have to visit that area, so she will hold onto stuff for me until I'm back in that area.

If anyone buys anything there (unlikely given last sale prices!!) happy to collect and forward at cost.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.

For all we know the previous owner might have been single with no next of kin. The most recent coin of the stash was dated 2018. Perhaps the original owner succumbed to Covid. Perhaps they severed ties with all family members. Court appointed curators step in and everything gets catalogued and subsequently auctioned off.

It’s no different than people that make a living out of participating in storage locker auctions whose owners defaulted on their payments for whatever reason, which sometimes turnout to have a fortune in valuables. It’s just the luck of the draw.
