Elizabeth I Silver Shilling

Recommended Posts

Can anyone shed some light on these coins please, are they genuine or fake? They say 1578 but I was under the impression that these coins weren't made that year an I also heard that the Elizabeth I shillings didn't have dates on them so this coin confuses me, is it genuine or fake?

Are you sure it is a "shilling" and not a "sixpence"??  The "sixpences" look very similar to this and do exist with the date 1578.

It could well be, I didn't realise the similarities and with the date on the coin it would make more sense that its a sixpence, thanks for clearing that up, I was worried i had obtained a fake shilling.
