Silly question: marking/labelling capsules

Recommended Posts

I'm probably over-thinking this, but I like to keep track of each individual coin/bar I own (where it came from, when, purchase price). I have just acquired a gold coin of a type and date I already have and so I want to mark the capsule in some way for identification. What do people normally do for this (if anything)? Sticky labels (obscure some of the coin, might fall off, changes feel of capsule if playing with it)? Sharpie (might rub off, harder to remove?)

Just asking in case there's a standard way of doing this.

@Paul has/had a very simple but clever way of doing it. Using slabs with built-in labels. I will try and find the thread and put it in here.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

I don't mark or label the capsules of any of the coins I have.

With regard to differentiating between examples of the same coin, what I do is put the example of the coin that I will keep in 'the collection' in a Quadrum capsule, and any duplicate/spare examples for 'the stack' in a normal simple round capsule.

I mostly collect rather than stack, so I don't have all that many duplicates or spares at the moment, but that's how I do it.

Buy small ziploc bags on eBay.  Label the bag and pop the coin in.  Store similar coins together in larger bags.  No sense in ruining a capsule.  Throw bags in old monster boxes.  Label box with a number, and update your inventory spreadsheet with the box number next to each item in the box.

Ive got about 70 to 80 coins. All purchased from on here or a bullion dealer (from which i have receipts).

Got to sit some time and tally up the metal to the paperwork and mark each accordingly. Will do it when my other half is working one weekend and i can have some peace and quiet lol.

Already got zipper bags for the silver.

Will get some of them there Quadrum cases for the gold.
