Storing PMs up t'north! (Yorkshire)

Recommended Posts

Good evening all!

I store my PMs "darn sarf" in London. But I'd love to keep them a bit more local for when I want to sell bits. I've been recommended Hatton Garden which sounds great, but not local.

Are there any recommendations in West Yorkshire you lovely lot can throw my way?

I don't trust banks and of course want it to be fully insured. There's lots on Google, but recommendations are always preferred 😊

I'm aware many of you like to lose your PMs on boats, but I only have a rubber dingy....

Thanks in advance!

there was a post last week. a user was saying he had a safety deposit box in manchester, for 100 a year. but you have to commit to 5 years for that price. the same company also had boxes in leeds. i cant remember the post though. if you look back you should find it

Do any of you split your storage to different locations?  Why do I have a huge stack and paranoia about storing it? 😆🙈

Fixed that for you Well It maybe worthwhile giving that massive hoover a rest then ;) until you find some storage ;)

But In all seriousness safety deposit box places normally and should come with insurance, but check who you store with.....

Yes. Why not leave an amount where it is a few hours away and then another portion of your stack in a more local vault? Your business might need a box to store important documents off-site might it 👍🏼

St James have a safe deposit place in Leeds as well

Another member has just sent me some info on the same place and this looks like where I'm going to go.

Thanks everyone for the help. Very helpful as always 😊

Actually, I have been thinking the same. Maybe don't store all at one place. Spreads any risk.

Our storage is mainly intended for purchases from us, but we do accept other material.

We do not operate a safety deposit system whereby you rent a box, and have unlimited access to it, so it probably not the best solution for @katyc, and I can see she does not want to travel so far, but thanks for the mention.

Yes, Portugal is good.

We were too nusy to get to Belem for their Pasteis de Belem, but have had numerous Pasteis de Nata at breakfast, or with coffee. I think they are the same apart from the brand name.

It was nice, warm, sunny weather while we were travelling to the junket, but has been raining most of the time since the main work element finished.

I did spot a mention on the RM (Rumour Mill), but did not have time to reply.

How much have you got? Vaulting typically seems to become cost effective around £20,000 or so.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

I guess you've also got the option of splashing out on a safe, vaulting some and keeping some at home.

Where does that figure come in? There is only so much you can ‘hide’, and safes at home have a limit (more normal ones!). Like insurance, putting in a vault may seem expensive until it’s needed (after the burglary at home). I think that once you’re into four figures you need to be thinking more security and you always keep adding to it.

Depending on the service, the minimum fees tend to correspond to something of the order of £20,000 in storage, give or take.  The fees usually also cover insurance, though, which is not something to be sneezed at.  I am contemplating getting a safe and maybe storing some off-site when the stack gets big enough for that to be worth doing, although I need to actually fill a tube with sovereigns before I can consign it to a third party.
