Found this while sorting through a pile of change. Looks really old and is very worn. Can't quite catch the date but looks at least 1800s??

Does anyone know what is is? Is it anything of note or just old tat?

I will look when I get back in. Thanks for taking the time to look and reply.👍

A farthing is 20mm I think. 👍

Measured using metric first, strangely 2.5cm. Had the brainwave that it might have been an inch back in the day and worn down a bit!💡🤔.

I believe what you have is a queen Victoria "farthing " possibly 1890s

I would have gone for 1890

In good condition around £10 🤣

I like to buy the pre-dip rise.

Even with the information about the diameter, it is obvious it is an 1890 British halfpenny Victoria Young Head.

The "90" of the date is clear, and the "L" in "HALF" is visible.

You can tell it its British because BRITT is visible.

It is always worth including as much information as possible when first enquiring, but you later supplied the diameter, which would easily confirm the denomination.

You could look here:

This is how it would have looke when new:

And this is how a farthing would look:

Only @Fishy321 managed to identify it was a farthing halfpenny.

We have coins just like it in our "scrap bronze" bucket.

Thanks for all your replies. I did just think that it would have been the easiest thing for everyone to just read the info rather than try to describe. A picture paints a thousand words right???🤷. But duly noted.

I was hoping for a Del boy moment at Sotheby's 🤔. Maybe next year.....

Sorry to burst your bubbles, but LC is right. At 25mm it’s a HALF penny! A farthing is 20mm. Good Ol’ Lawrence!
