Opening a silver Royal Mint capsule

How do you open a Royal Mint capsule? I've tried but can't get it open no matter how hard I twist or pull it.

While I keep all my PMs properly stored off-site I also have a single 2oz silver Queens Beast White Lion coin which I keep at home on my desk because I like the face design. As this is the only coin at home I'd like to open it up to the elements so that I can actually touch it with my fingers. I don't mind if it gets tarnished or milk spots from the elements or grease. In fact I would quite like this single coin to become 'weathered'.

I've had some RM caps that are so loose, well, they're pre-opened for you.

I've had others that are so stiff that I've accepted defeat. One of those un-openable caps I sent for grading and so it did get opened by someone...

Next time, I'm gonna go at it with pipe grips.

RM capsules opening in transit seems to have become more prevalent in recent months.

Since the quality issues, even with proofs, I route the purchase delivery through a dealer for inspection; anything sub standard goes back.

After that, after the novelty has worn off, they go away to storage, often without myself having opened them at all.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.

The current crop of silver proof coins have a slight twist lock and pull off action. I mean only a few degrees of twist. They are very stiff and difficult to get off the first time.

For some reason, that reminds me of a girl I used to know! ☺️

The best method I have without using implements, is to put it between both palms  squeeze and try and twist it with the pressure you are applying.

This way, the capsule isn't going to open completely, and potentially end up with the coin on the floor or whatever.

Works for me, takes a bit of practice.
