Insured postage of high value coins

Recommended Posts

Good evening everyone,

I hope that you have had a good weekend.

Please can I ask for some advice on insured postage? The Royal Mail only offers insurance up to £2,500. If you want to post/courier coins worth more than this in the UK and want insurance who would you recommend?

Many thanks,

Chris

@BackyardBullion looked in to this a lot on the below thread.

not sure if a satisfactory answer emerged for the really valuable stuff? Think the conclusion was that the big dealers have their own trade insurance policies but didn’t seem to be much available to the average joe!

Thank you. It appears that this is an issue without an easy solution.

DHL maybe ?

When i order from germany, they always send with DHL.

And they told me its insured up to 5000 euro.

I use Royal Mail Special Delivery as they are the only RM service that insures PM’s. I split any lot into multiple packages of £2,500 each when necessary and on the odd occasion I have had to individually insured single items well over that threshold.

Many thanks, Elliot

Couriers forbid the shipping of PM when it comes to private individuals.  When shipping  for company's they use third party insurance, usually  provided by a  sister company from the same group.

malca-amit.com provides  insure shipping  for high value items (50.000E and up, if I remember correctly).

How do you insure the individual items above the threshold? is there a specific company/courier which specialises in it or a separate policy you arrange on a one-off basis?

I’m lucky to have a account with Coutts, who have helped me a couple of times with bigger pure bullion sales. For PM coins I’ve used this company https://www.secursus.com/

Ive never had to claim with them and I guess that’s the important bit...

Dealers and businesses have specific insurance cover so they don't have a problem with using most couriers who themselves exclude cover for PMs.
Some will ship sovereigns and diamonds using normal first class post because they have adequate insurance.

To the rest of us we have to rely on the Royal Mail Special Delivery as there is no alternative that covers high value or precious metals and coins.
Their limit per package is £2,500 so if sending coins you can easily split the shipment.

Yep, for proofs Secursus will cover them as they are classed as “collectibles”.
