Does that mean a floor is in now on the prices ? If a dealer bought the remainder, no way will they  flood the market. If RM “bought” them for a later “special” set release, we should know when the coronation proofs come out perhaps (although personally, I doubt they would have “bought the while lot…3,000 is a lot of “special” sets even for the RM)….or maybe Harry bought them as a prezzie for Megsy baby…..Time will tell….added three  bullion 2022  double sovs today either way….

They still seem expensive to me, but at the end of the day they will always be the first Charles III sovereigns and have a special intricate design.

Time will tell. Everyone has anecdotal stories. I have never had a problem with any RM gold sov  issues or secondary dealers. That is all

I would be looking to any individual/company to be respectful and honest in their qc as with any purchase, be it clothing, or any goods. That is basic customer service. And if a company or individual cannot provide assurances in action  or full refunds, then that company/individual is not trustworthy. Customer service 101 to my mind…obviously.

It is not the end of my world if I receive a sub par thing but I do expect a full refund or mutually agreed equivalent nominal value item(s) as recompense, should any failure in the original legal agreement occur. I am not bound by accepting sub par products just for procuring a bit of supposed historical reference. But looking forward to a pristine set  I have no reason to think otherwise.

Anyway, back on track, the 5Sov with this design is the winner imho. Long term, they all are. Just a matter of patience. I mean I have bought sets of proof back in the day whose nominal price back then is now worth more in bullion spot price….good luck all. Great design, great coin

Chards is your friend re qc and was £40 cheaper  Dropping just under £5K ish for the 5 coin set and to be fair, I have never received any bum coins personally over the decades and sovs are their forte. But this time, have gone with Chards.

I had a close friend who is not a coin collector but had some profits from a house sale come through and i advised him to go for the five coin set and hold.  Had a little time today as working from home to piece some info together from various sources to educate him a little further in coin history/values/past sales on these larger proofs historically and what they have achieved.  To anyone else who took the leap of faith, fingers crossed history should repeat with time as the market matures, coins disappear and get held in strong hand as years progress

Historically £5 proof gold coins were NOT struck every year, typically only in the first year coronation set
Years are 1826, 1839, 1887 (not first monarch in series) 1893 (not first monarch in series), 1902, 1911, 1937, 1952 and now 2022
It has only been since 1980 ongoing that a regular £5 sovereign was release annually

    playing devils advocate here
    With the time of year
    Cost of living
    Inflation
Past hyped releases peaking and quickly burning
    Interest rates rising
    Higher mintges on this release

It MAY be actually a good thing to slow, and bring back the market back into equilibrium, sense and stability again possibly??
I've no doubt in a life times stacking this will be a legacy coin with time and stand with previous 1st in reign of centuries gone by as several more learned members have pointed out in detail
From my point of view. When mine arrive, they get set to safe deposit box and doubt will be touched until retirement. Anyone who does similar I very much doubted you'll have any downside especially in the more limited big boy sets

Not sure I see the problem here, it looks great. It's definitely busy but I'm more interested in something intricate with lots of detail to discover than something more simple. I think this design is very regal.
I do think the focus on that camera is off and makes the coin look blurry, we will definitely see better shots on here, hopefully soon.
I think this will be amazing in the bigger coins.

No need to be upset. I have been here along with you for many years here  on TSF. This time is the first time this particular time frame has been given for a sov, so it is worth discussion. If you have taken offense, my apologies. I could have phrased it better….

….and good old fashioned bog standard sovs of course…..that is taken as read  Ittakes a lot for me to drop into the proof world of sovs so they have to have “value” and is why I am not bothered about the “price”…..whereas bog standard sovs, apart from just being my favorite coin of all time, are just all about the price and actual tactile feel of them. Nothing beats that, not even a proof….and I have bought many motorbikes over the decades which provided me with enormous “value”……in trips, experiences, people met and miles travelled……even a wife and kid toboot…..

After the King’s Coronation next year, there will be a dearth of reasons for special sovereigns (many recent ones coincided with the late Queen’s achievements in longevity of reign and marriage and her death along with the ascension of the new King), so enjoy it while it lasts……it’ll be back to regular sovs for a decade or two going forward after the coronation…..

The first proof sovereign of a new sovereign is always a winner……history proves this. If I were a youngun, I would be asking Santa for one for sure. If I were an Oldun, I would be getting one for its own worth as a collector and pass it down to a family member who appreciates value as opposed to numerical worth…..what is the phrase….someone who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing…….think of the value not the price.

Having bought both the 2017 5 coin set, 5 sov BU,  piedfort and SOTD,  thePlatinum wedding set and the Queen’s Platinum set as well as the 1817, 1937 and now 5 coin Charles III set, I am comfortable with my choices.
