  1. But as you know, crypto can make fortunes and also break people. I never advised neighbours or colleagues to invest in crypto because I knew that while it could lift someone from poverty, it could also seriously damage their future. Invest what you can afford to lose is the mantra and that is the end of that.
  2. No, as insurance. Hospital? Pawn gold. Home improvements? Pawn gold. Unemployment....etc. You are correct, this can be a game changer for Asia, just as mobile money apps (Western Union) were. But, it's regulated. So many hurdles, many SE Asians lack identification, no passports or their birth certificate is spoiled. I like Kinesis because it is linked with the post office which is much more accessible to joe average. Gold can be bought easily, with cash, and sold/pawned just as quickly, for cash. Crypto has a long way to go.
  3. Actually, I'll retract that! In theory, it should be easy but to buy crypto you need a bank account and 50% of Asia are unbanked. Globally, there are billions of people who cannot access exchanges. edit: In the Philippines, there are ways to buy crypto with cash but many will not pass the KYC. edit II: this is why I was excited about @sixgun's Kinesis.
  4. Your point about getting on board with crypto being easy is correct, but you'll find that everyone in Asia owns gold. Everyone.
  5. 'Do you wear cotton gloves? 🧤' Bully does, it stops him getting blisters 😉 😇
  6. Thank you Six, It took me 0.00041 seconds to log into SDBullion when I saw your original quote! I'm not a fan of the Buffalo (the coin I mean, the animal is very tasty) but at that price....
  7. That's what it was, the coins all got smaller! Indeed, and why should it? 👍
  8. I don't know the definite answer to your question, but I remember George VI shillings and florins being in circulation perhaps up to the '90s? The sixpence was currency up to the '80s too? Actually, I think George V silver coins too, although perhaps people had cottoned on to the silver content and these were being 'stacked' as early as 1947? It was probably decimalisation that killed the King's coins. Folk struggled to understand the old denominations, I don't recall them being particularly worn, although it was a long time ago!
  9. @cliveb13 is the chap who could tell you about the properties of platinum and palladium 👍

    Time to sell?

10oz is a nice stack, a good insurance policy and I'd leave it alone. Forget about it and stop looking at the gold price! It will always be there when you need it. As mentioned, now is the time to look for other opportunities, although perhaps you already have? The point is, you can afford to take some well researched risks with stocks, miners etc. or even cryptos because you have something to fall back on.
  11. Papabearxxx joined the forum Apr 3, made only one post and was last seen Apr 9. Did he achieve what he set out to do?
  12. Wise words @Bixley. I had the same discussion on here a few years ago after I lost one of my best friends. One of those sobering moments. I accepted the fact that my wife would most likely outlive me, she's younger and in far better health. We set up a standard account for her here and I told her to get in touch with the forum when it's time for her to liquidate. She knows the user names to trust. It's not a perfect solution but I'm sure a far better choice than turning up at a dealer with a briefcase full of coins. The forum should hopefully assist and collectively give her fair/market value for my 'stack'. I don't have any concerns over CGT or IT because @sixgun will be bringing the coins over on his yacht, and we all know what dreadful luck he has. As you say, accidents can and do happen.
  13. I use the 'William Wallace' method. My bits and pieces are scattered all around the country 😊
  14. To be fair to the silver boys, silver has/could've been a good investment. The problem was me. When I first started buying silver (2014-2015) it was cheap compared to today, in fact just like gold I could've doubled my investment. Maples, Phillies and Brits were £12-15 and the Perth stuff was a little more. Had I kept them, I could've realised £24 on the former and £30 on the latter without too much trouble (actually my kooks and koalas sold for this, my lunars for a bit more). As it happens, most of my silver stack sold on here a few years ago, the special year brits and pandas and libs sold easily. I did well on my beasts too, picking them up for under £30 at times, perhaps £40 as an average? Wait...my silver stacking has been a good investment! * (just my gold has been better 😊) *coins, not bars. They suck.
  15. I have. Look, I've done my time. I'm neither deluded nor conditioned, my time has been prosperous and I will enjoy the benefits I have earned. The quote I gave above is from Margaret Thatcher. Do you think I'm 'conditioned', am I politically correct? I'm no more politically correct than you are bully, which makes us awesome. Have things changed or are people just worried that things might have changed? I think expectations have changed. Everyone wants a 3 bed semi with a double garage.
