Thought I would say hello after lurking on and off for quite  a while, first heard about this site from byb's wonderful videos on YouTube but have been been collecting coins for several years now, both more collectable pieces and bullion. Would perhaps like to try cleaning silver with household chemicals/ items but have never been brave enough. (Think you can use baking soda and aluminium foil or something to reverse any corrosion) -

Also have paper money, rounds etc - quite a mixture of stuff. I might finish a series one day!

    Welcome to the forum!

    Hi All

i have decided I want to invest in silver for my retirement - I am currently 40(ish) and will be holding till I’m at least 60(ish) and live in the Uk

I know nothing about silver but have spent the last day looking at 1oz Brittanias (solid investment)……oh American Eagles look cool…wait these marvel collections are amazing……I’m expecting this journey of discovery is one most of you relate too, lol

I would be looking to buy 10+ coins per month, but I’m not sure if I should just buy standard Britannia's or go in for collections etc etc

What would be the best solid investment / riskier investment with potentially higher return etc etc?

Any advice and guidance or direction towards research resources would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks all 🙂

Welcome Bilbo995! Like @FourNinesFine mentioned, there are many people on here who can give you way better advice than me. But what I do know is that Silver is gateway metal towards gold. I started just like you and now I am trying to complete sovereign date-runs! ;)

i guess you were referring to Sidney and Melbourne mints. 1887 is quite a crowded year yes)

Indeed I was. I don't stick to London mint only. I count bullion years (all mints).

interesting topic... let's count! (only London mint)

    20 pre victorians; 59 victorian's ((35 shield - 10 young head - bear in mind that like this i m counting twice 1871/2/3/4-  6 jubilee - 8 old head); 9 edward; 8 George V, 1 George VI;

57 Elisabeth's (but consider that from 1983 to 1999 included we are talking about only Proof sovs, not bullion, and that applies to 1937 too); for not saying about the 1953 sov...(which i didnt count in here)

    that makes 97 pre Elizabeth + 57 Elizabeth = 154 (again, i counted 1871-2-3-4 twice, i didnt include 1953, and there are 18 proofs)

this is a mere theoretical exercise since, as someone already pointed out, there are some sovs which are just not collectible for 99% of collectors...

    1819-1823-1828-1838-1839-1841-1874-1917

Don't forget the 1887. It was minted as a young head but also jubilee head.

  5. I count 135 from 1838 to 2022. Not counting 1841, the Ansell or King George VI sovs for financial reasons ;)

I hope that is correct as I am close to completing that date run, if only someone would sell me the 1838 and 1839.... I bought a slabbed 1924, but don't dare to break the slab to be able to stick the 1924 in one of Alun's boxes with all his mates....

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum but have been lurking for the past 2 years.

I'm looking to get to know more about silver/gold as i have watched countless hours of videos on youtube.

I'm a beginner stacker and have started my collection with a 2021 Brittania, 2020 Krugerrand and a 2020 Disney Lion King coin all 1oz. I enjoy the collectible coins and want to learn more about long term stacking.

It's great to meet you all!

You def took your time to sign up ;) Welcome to the registers part of the forum, and happy collecting!

    Hi, everyone.

Just thought I'd write and say hi.

My name is Stellios, I'm Cypriot but was born and raised in London, now living back in Cyprus and I'm a complete beginner to the whole silver and gold stacking/collecting/investing.

I've always liked coin collecting (I have a box full of coins from all over the world) and have known about more valuable/collectible coins to a degree but never really looked into it. The concept of stacking wasn't something I was even aware of!

To be perfectly honest, I can't really remember how I stumbled upon the first video on YouTube a few weeks ago, but one led to the other and before I knew it I was well and truly down the rabbit hole!

After watching several of Silver Dragons videos I decided to search for UK channels and came across Backyard Bullion and I've just been hooked!

    And now I'm here!

I look forward to learning as much as I can while interacting with you lovely people and collecting/stacking some shiny metals.

    Thanks for having me 😊

    Welcome to the forum Stellios!

  10. Nooooo I wouldn't go as far to call it an addiction.

It is just a huge craving for physical gold. The constant urge to touch, fumble and stare at that beautiful gold metal. To forget time when handling the coins. The feel of being a pirate when we stroll the seas of auctions and for sale threads on distant forums for that one treasure that no one else spotted. The bidding war, the countdown and finally the victory when we pay the online banktransfers! The countless hours of that online journey while wife and child is secondary in life and making place for that primary goal of succeeding in our mission to find....... GOLD!

Edit: After reading my post again: Errrr yeah it can feel like an addiction... I would call it a slight obsession.

Hey chaps, just recently started investing in metals and I have come across this forum by chance, will probably make a good reference point for me to learn about the topic.

From the little I've seen, Gold is better then Silver due to VAT, still, I thought I'd start with Silver as it's cheap enough to get started and I'm mostly into the habit of getting in the regular coin, with the idea of buying the odd cold coin in between while I learn the process.

For the time being, just browsing.

Welcome to the forum, and remember: Silver is a gatway metal to gold ;)

    Hi  there.

My name is Keith and I've just joined your forum. I heard about you while watching some of 'Backyard Bullion's videos on youtube.

A couple of months ago I bought my first silver Britannia off ebay and I've kind of got the bug. I'm currently upto 10 Britannia's dated  from 2014 to 2020, all ebay purchases and none over £28 inc postage, though it looks like that little run has come to an end lol. My current aim is to accumulate as much high purity metal as possible for the lowest price.

I was considering buying up some sterling and refining it upto 999 but it seems to be selling for nearly the same price, so not worth bothering.

Anyway thats pretty much what I'm about at the moment.

I look forward to reading about what you are all into.

    All the best Keith,

    Welcome to the forum Keith!

    Hi All,

So I have been browsing these forums since the beginning of the year and thought its about time I signed up (actually saw the new silver 1oz silver bars pop up and wanted to put my name on list as they look great so that was good reason as well)

A bit about me, I tend to buy and sell a lot things but more recently I have been investing in the stock market and crypto currency then I discovered gold/silver and now I think I'm addicted, actually owning a physical asset that holds some value seems to hold a greater appeal plus the fact its shiny makes me think I must of been a magpie in a former life :)

So started with couple 100g bars of silver now seem to have collection of half gold sovereigns and silver brits, pandas , American eagles and other various items which I'm now trying to put into cases as seems such a shame for them just to sit in bags.

So enough of me all these posts on this forum have helped me start collecting massively, thanks to you all!

    Panda1001

Welcome to the 'registered' part of the forum ;) And great choice on the new 1oz 2022 BYB bars. They look lovely on the images but even better in hand.

    Hi all

I have been lurking for a while and found some of the threads on here excellent. I am new to all this and originally started looking due to the solid money/ inflation hedging angle. Got a bit caught up in the collecting side of things too and am keen to start investing in the British Monarchs series

Am I right in thinking these will only be released with the proof finishes? And there is only 2 released so far?

looking forward to learning more from you all!

    Hello,

I wanted to introduce myself as a brand new stacker. This is day 1 for me on TSF.

By way of introduction, I found my way into the world of stacking, not through traditional 'investing' or 'collecting' channels, but through more of the geo-political discourse. I'd started to investigate ways of moving funds away from traditional banking environments (FIAT currency) and was immediately attracted to the proposition of investing in (physical) metals. I hope that doesn't make me seem like a doomsayer. But whilst I'm not expecting the worst, it's fair to say my spider-sense has recently started to tingle.

Investing in precious metals seems to me, to be a sensible way to hedge against some of the potential scenarios at play, whilst maintaining a portfolio that can be handed to my children for their futures.

I only wish my pockets were deeper. As it is, I'm likely to be one of the forum's more modest investors.

I took possession this week of my first 20oz of silver - 13 Britannias and 7 Maples, thanks to the lovely folks at @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer

A small stack. But, from little acorns do mighty oaks grow. I hope that my investment journey continues for many yeears to come and that I enjoy it alongsiide you fine folks and this community.

    All the best,

    FNF.

Welcome to the forum FNF! Good way to start your stack!!

    Good afternoon,

I'm a lover, collector and investor of precious metals. I have been reading you for a long time and I have decided to create an account to be part of this community.

I will try to help and contribute as much as I can, but I hope to learn a lot from all of you.

I believe that saving, investing and collecting precious metals is "underestimated" in the investment world and even more so since the cryptocurrency boom.

For this reason I have also created a website, a YouTube channel and a Twitter account to use as a speaker and try to make our beloved metals reach more people.

    Thanks!!!!

Thank you 🙏. Although there is the odd bullion dealer here in Portugal, they have limited stock and what they do have is usually quite expensive. That’s why I found a couple of good dealers in Germany 🙏

I would trade you some gold coins for a nice old farm place in Portugal. I love the countryside and country! ;)

    Hi All,

So I'm new on here and have been living in Portugal for a few years. Have been stacking for a little while now but trying to buy bullion here is not easy. There are so few dealers and the prices are high. They tend to concentrate on Portuguese monarchy and collectors pieces, which I'm not really interested in.

I have been buying in Germany, sending the order to family there (as they won't post internationally) and wait for them to visit to bring it with them. So I was wondering if there were any other like minded stackers in Portugal who would like to connect.

If there is please get in touch.

I look forward to being an active member on here now.

    Best.

Welcome to the forum Organics! I agree with @Spanishsilver. There are many good places in Europe to find bullion for a decent price. All of them will ship abroad and internationally. I used to buy a lot of my coins from the UK, but after Brexit and all custom-charges, import-fees i now have to buy all my coins from Europe and it works fine for me tbh. Although I do mis the good deals on this forum in the -UK for sale- section as the European for sale section is fairly quiet.
