If the sender states the wrong code then it’s nought to do with shipping agents or customs, they are just following their sop’s. If that’s what the paperwork says then that’s what it is unless they decide different. Which they are not going to do in this case. A. it’s just a coin as the paperwork says and B. rarely do they reclassify something that declares a VAT liability to something that doesn’t. As a company we could just offset this if it happens and stick it on our deferment account but as an individual I presume you’ll have to contact your equivalent of our HMRC in your country and fill in a claim form.??

You are right! Hence the investigation/claim. I had to provide all paperwork, pictures, invoices, payments etc etc. And it was clearly a gold sovereigns what was in the package, still they charged me the VAT due to a wrong number so it seems.

I'll write them again on Monday.

  2. The fees are minimum. All packages handled through customs will be charged a handling-fee.
The Vat is where the real hurt is.

Seems like dutch customs is still learning about investment gold coins, and how to handle the packages.

The real problem i encountered is that the shipping company pays the custom fees and charge them straight to you. Even when customs made a mistake then you will have to pay the full amount and then the shipping company will investigate.
If customs tell the shipping company that the Vat charge was correct, then the shipping company will drop the investigation. And writing to customs directly is a difficult process.

i want to order a sovereign but i'm scared of the custom fee, so i should make sure that RM mark the parcel properly so i will not be pay the custom?

Yes, make sure they use the right RN number. I found out that it should have been 711890( https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/headings/7118 ).

But now I need costums to understand that it is investment gold. Sigh..... I think this will be the last time I import any gold coins from outside the EU tbh.

@sgcoinsI just write the people an customs an email and tell them to waive all fees as it’s legal tender so I won’t pay them as the coin is under a certain value. They oblige and the charges get removed.

I got my full 2022 sovereign just a week ago, and got charged 21% VAT on importing it. I explained exactly that, but customs still charged me as the Royal Mint marked the package with HS code 7118100000. (Whatever that means?) And according to customs a HS code 7118100000 is charged with 21%VAT.

They told me they can not waiver the fees.

I think Royal Mint just used the wrong HS number and now I am am billed extra.

Hi, new to this type of investment but it has been at the back of my mind for some time as a way of protecting savings in more uncertain times which we seem to be heading for possibly.

Hoping to gain some insight and maybe trade with some of you, if I can help with advice in my fields of expertise I would be happy to help.

Hope you have had a great Christmas /Yule and a happy, healthy 2022 and beyond 👍🙏

    Hello everyone,

Glad that I found this forum and am excited to be a part of it.
I have been collecting silver coins for the past few months, but have found it difficult to discover and talk to like-minded people who share the same passion as I do. Looking forward to meet fellow stackers and collectors on this forum.

    Thank you.

Hi All 👋 I'm new to the forum and generally speaking a relatively new collector. Started off with some thematically organised bunc coins and very quickly ended up down the precious metals rabbit hole! Mostly focusing on interesting silver coins with my first toe dip into the gold water coming this sovereign season.

    Hi,

I am mainly Silver Stacking and I do a little collecting.  I think that precious metals may be the most reliable form of money these days...

Hello there guys - I’m new to this forum, even if i somtimes have been reading as visitor in the background. I am in the late 50`s and live in Germany. Since a couple years i am trying to get some precious metal into my stock for the retirement. Mostly silver as some say it is the Gold of the small people. My Focus has been on Bullion, but since COVID dropped into our live the spot for Bullion got insane. I hope to learn more about precious metals and might share experience with you guys. Of course i also hope i can trade, sell or buy from time to time some peaces of coins which i still miss in my collection.

That`s it for now - hope i can participate and wish you all a nice sunday.

    Welcome to the forum!

Hello there guys I’m new to this forum . I use Reddit under the same username. I’m looking to buy and trade on here and gain some knowledge too. The premiums on silver really are bad you must agree ? Lol .

I am mainly in here in the hope to trade up my gold bullion to higher values. Do people just have to trust users in here to send the items once paid ? Anyway looking forward to interaction with many of you members.

    Welcome to the forum!

Most of the transactions are build on trust on here, we do have some other options available also. I believe @BackyardBullion does Intermediary service.

Hi thanks for letting me join the group – I've been hovering around for a while - I finally took the plunge to join

I bought my first gold sovereign bullion coins in 2015 – I thought it would be a good way to invest after coming into some inheritance money – I also have a passive interest in British history so moved on to acquiring some of older sovereigns with a view putting a collection together of the various monarch heads from the different mints of the empire – i also bought a few proof coins mainly sovereigns and a couple of Britannia’s – I currently have a collection of around 40 PM coins – I still feel very much a novice so am joining the group very much as a student hoping to learn more – eventually - but not yet i will probaly sell or trade some of my collection , so been part of this group will hopfuly help my education and give me the knowledge and confidence going forward

    Thanks - Sid
