  1. RM will have proof and BU bullion issues with KC3 on reverse. US Mint will have just proof issue with two shores with trees and pond in between for reverse.
  2. Gold is not an investment tool. It is a hedge for preserving wealth. The buying power of gold has been constant for the past 4 centuries or so. It is the fiat currencies that have been losing their value/buying power hence the increase in price of a troz of gold (in relation to fiat currencies).
  3. From RM description, they are probably reusing the 1818 Crown SG&D design with garter motto. I much prefer the 1820 5 Sovereign pattern with no garter motto that the RM re-adopted from the 2009 5 Sovereign proof and BU issues.
  4. Maybe it was the company that owned or operated the bullion vault in the twin towers basement.
  5. You’re probably right. Specially with bulk substitutions, dealers can save money by skipping the grade and just having the coins authenticated.
  6. AFAIK, the early submission were in batches or group of coins and were only authenticated (hence 1 of xxx). Later submissions were graded and no longer had the 1 of xx number batch). The more popular of these WTC recovery coins would be the American Eagles (Au, Pt & Ag) with 2001 year and MS69 grade.
  7. They were recovered from a bullion vault in the basement on the twin towers. Bullion gold, platinum & silver coins with varying years (up to 2001) from different countries. i have 2 I acquired in 2003 for my kids.
  8. I’ve gifted gold bullion coins to nieces’ and nephew’s wedding varying from 1/4 to 1/2 troz China Panda (depending on Au spot at the time). For my daughter’s wedding, I gave her a silver six pence dated 1885 (she was born 1985) for her shoe at the wedding. And gave her and my son-in-law a 1 troz Au China Panda. For my grandkids: I gave the oldest a proof Sovereign with his birth year and 1 troz Au Canada Five Blessings coin. and his younger twin siblings (girl and boy) 1/4 troz bimetallic Au/Pt Angel & Noble from IoM (Pobjoy Mint) and 1 troz Pt US PF Eagle & 1 troz Au Australia Year of the Monkey.
  9. 1985 struck China Bao Yuan 1/10 troz 999 Au Vault Protector (max mintage 10,000)
  10. Bought in late 2000 and early 2001, I have 2 Maklouf effigy 5 Sovereign ‘U’ marked from the secondary market. Regular (1985) and Couped (1987) Maklouf effigies. Might be worth looking into. Pics from World Wide Web:
  11. FYI - 1994 small date minted at Shenyang is scarcer than the 1994 large date minted at Shanghai.
  12. I have 1 Troy ounce gold China Panda bullion from 1982 - 2015. I stopped acquiring the series from 2016 when China Mint went decimal weight of 30 grams.
  13. WAG: only 1 effigy for KC3 reign - Old Head!

  15. Those are great detecting finds and whatever grade they get assigned would be enhanced if the grading company could note them as ‘detecting finds’ on the grading label.
  16. Maybe if they issued both Roman & Arabic numerals for the same year.
  17. No, not a quintuple sovereign. They are 5 Pound Sterling gold coins with a slightly bigger diameter than quintuple sovereigns. The 2 Pound Sterling gold coins you mentioned were issued also as part of the Sovereign proof sets on their years.
  18. First and foremost, did you submit the 5 coin set to NGC for grading or did you buy it from a third party as a NGC graded first release 5 coin set (they may have mixed in the sov and half sov which were NOT part of the original 5 coin set)?
  19. The wife prefers me accumulating PM coins rather than guns and knives. I tell her that I need the guns and knives to safeguard my PM coin collection. 😎
  20. I have both the proof and BU versions of this. The BU has a lower sold number. IIRC, both were sold to me at bullion gold pricing (sovereign) without any additional cost for the silver collar on the bimetallic coin/s.

    1 oz Kruggerands

In the US, expect to pay 2-3% premium when buying. If you’re selling, melt or spot is already high.
