Same here, but the security issue escapes me. Surely a thief could just take the collection of plastic cards that most people have and make a number of contactless purchases very easily?
I try to carry £50-£250 on me. At the moment it's quite a bit more than that as I recently sold a couple of car parts (cash). Surely that's still way less than the value of the latest Applsung Mongmaster S99i that these non-cash pillocks swank around with?

I’m the opposite. I always carry cash on me. Then again I don’t live in London and my chances of encountering some knife wielding robber who’s twice the size of me is significantly reduced where I live.
Cash is very handy in case of emergencies, such as when the payments systems crash in the supermarkets or wherever. All those shoppers who rely 100% on their cards having to abandon their purchases and make a mad dash to join the long queue at the nearest cash machine, hoping that it will still payout when it’s their turn.
Cards are a necessary convenience, but think of the above scenario and try to have some cash handy for the unexpected. Just my penny’s worth.

Most of the coins in use today are 30 years old or less and none pre-date 1971 so it's hardly a surprise that they need replacing less than say in the 1960s, when you often got copper coins (mostly well worn and flat) with Victoria and Edward VII on.

I have been waiting for Charles III coins to come to me in change, but on this news, I decided to get a pair of definitive BU sets, just in case his coins never become common in change. Note: only the definitives though, I don't want any commemorative c**p.

Picked this up earlier not because of the news but simply because the design is one of the best I’ve seen. Being silver it will take hundreds of years to be worth good money but the gold was a bit of a stretch!
