  1. According to the RM website the silver 1oz had a diameter of 38.61mm, whereas the LMP website states that the silver 2oz will have a diameter of 40mm - so slightly larger, but not much so.
  2. The SOTD is now on sale: https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/the-95th-birthday-of-her-majesty-the-queen/celebration-sovereign/
  3. Again, no longer in stock (but availability may change on 20/6/21) - price 749.95 Euros! https://www.powercoin.it/en/europe/5680-queen-beasts-completer-2-oz-silver-coin-5-pounds-united-kingdom-2021.html
  4. This dealer, currently does not have any, but has a price of £449.25 when they do! https://goldsilver.be/en/queen-s-beasts/3904-uk-2-oz-silver-queen-s-beasts-completer-2021-5-proof-box-coa.html
  5. It is one thing to ask double, but it is a very different thing to achieve it - not all eBayers are that stupid!
  6. I think it depends on how it fits in with your collection. I have ordered one, but it is because of the nature of the anniversary, the Matte finish, and plain edge on the coin which have attracted me to it. Having said this the total mintage is quite high (1295) for a Strike on the Day coin, so it is unlikely to be a financial winner in the short run.
  7. It is cetainly going to be interesting. From what I have seen, allocated gold will not be on a bank's balance sheet as it is owned by someone else (so it does not belong to the bank). However, unallocated gold will be on a bank's balance sheet as an asset BUT only at 85% of its value, whereas the bank will also have a liability to the full 100%, and so it is the treatment* of this difference of 15% that commentators are saying will drive banks away from unallocated (paper trading) gold - maybe! There is still a debate whether Basel III will come in on 28/6/21 (in Europe - 1/1/22 in the UK) as one can imagine there is a lot of behind the scenes discussions taking place! * in relation to a bank's Funding Ratio.
  8. Hi, the top one might be a half sovereign as it is smaller than the bottom coin - but there are fakes of these. Can I ask what is the auction description that goes with these coins?
  9. It has just come to me who the image on the Alfred the Great coin reminds me of - Mr Burns as the alien in The Simpsons!
  10. Sold out - it appears that some people have more money than sense!
  11. I'm not sure you can really say we have had a 10 year bull market in silver. Yes, the past year has been good, but I would suggest that for the preceeding nine years, silver's performance was distinctly lackluster.
  12. Yes, it was a couple of months ago when I placed my order. But if you are wanting one from them, I suggest you just contact them directly - if it is out of stock they will tell you.
  13. But the point I am making is that going back just a few years we did not have all these new issue 2oz, 5oz, 10oz, 1 kilo and 10 kilo silver coins which we are now getting on a regular basis.
  14. Conundrum: If there is a silver shortage, why are the mints releasing more and more 2oz, 5oz, 10oz, 1 kilo and 10 kilo silver coins?
  15. No one really knows what is going to happen to the price of gold (despite all the videos on YouTube). If we are in a bull run, is it the start of it or the end of it? I would suggest this would make a big difference to your decision. If you are buying 2.5 grams of gold ($180-$190?) you are not going to lose much even if gold goes down 10% in the short run. You also need to consider where to safely store any gold you buy.

    Bit of advice

On the face of it, this seems like an excellent idea, but I do fear that some disreputable oraganisations are already doing this (or something very similar - releasing an endless stream of overpriced coins!).
  17. I've ordered mine from the Coin Connection so I am hoping it will have been carefully checked.
  18. It's not just your eyes - in the presentation box there appears to be a HALF sovereign rather than a full sovereign! Since 2009, the full sovereign does not have the streamer flying from St George's helmet (compare with the sovereign shown above).
  19. I think it would be useful to see some pictures. Numismatic coins usually have a value greater than the spot price of gold, depending on their condition. I have never bought anything from Rosland, so I don't know anything about their pricing policy.
  20. If the 2021 SOTD is £630, and the 1926 and 1957 sovereigns can be bought for around £400 each, then you are paying £565 for the presentation box and certificate! Interestingly when the SOTD was originally publicised a few months ago, the price was £640 rather than the current £630.
  21. Powercoin are not the only mint pushing back on release dates. I understand an email from the US Mint has delayed the release of the Denver, San Francisco and Philadelphia versions of the 2021 Morgan dollar, and also of the 2021 Peace dollar. The email states that the "global silver shortage" has driven up demand and consequently "website anomalies" prevented customers from completing their orders (for the pre-release of the Carson City and New Orleans Morgan dollars a few days ago). So, the delays in the releases are stated as being to "obtain web traffic management tools to enhance the user experience"! This does seem to be strange reasoning.
  22. Another possiblity is the implementation of Basel III. This is aimed at regulating the banks and and will have implications for the LBMA. It is due to come into force at the end of June in Europe and on 1/1/22 in the UK. According to this video it should tighten up on banks' ability to deal in unallocated gold. It suggests that banks may be forced out of their current short positions in the LBMA, and therefore, getting back to your question, banks may be starting to buy gold to begin covering their short positions... maybe!
  23. I've got to say, I'm getting totally confused by all the varieties (not just of this release) that the Royal Mint is producing. It looks as if the most desirable varieties of today's coins were held back for later!
