I've never gave a lot of thought to weight. Just numbers of sovereigns collected. So I'm also in the club 😆 but as I get older I will sell some as needed. Can't work forever and don't want to drop dead the richest man in the graveyard. It's sobering watching a beloved collection dwindling I guess. Eventually I suppose the best strategy is to have few examples of different coins , graded highly to enjoy in later life. With the world in turmoil it could be tempting to stack forever who knows. Gold sovereigns as a pension fund is probably not the greatest idea unless you're well stocked with other investments.

The nearest safe deposit place for me is realistically London . I can just imagine walking the side streets of that wonderful save city and it's lovely people with a rucksack full of gold sovereigns .

For £500 a week I'd be buying quality rather than quanity. Quality always sells.

Im guessing that if you are buying sovereigns that are not in great nick you would have trouble selling them later on and if they are eventually heading to the dealers/melting pot you may get under spot for them.
If you buy decent condition coins, when you go to sell, not only will they attract more buyers you may sell at an extra premium on top.
With your budget you could do very well 😎.
As for cleaned or polished coins, i dont know. But id have ripped the sellers arm off like you did the other day if i had the money. That was a great purchase and way to good for the melting pot.

The cleaned sovereign you bought was quite nice. Even coins in museums have been cleaned at some point. Polished coins look dreadful. Theres a difference. A jeweler will buy ex jewelry coins but will pay below spot so you'd have to be careful what you buy. Everyone is different with different ideas. Can't really say this is the right way or wrong way really . Each to their own I always say. But it's good to hear other opinions.

It’s a little harder to sell a coin than go to a cash machine and draw cash … or to swipe your card! Since buying coins the value I have saved is far more than if saving in the bank🤔😮

Might take a month off as I really overspent this month to hit kg 😂 but will carry on.
for me it’s just a good way of saving as I am rubbish with money and if it’s in the bank it quickly gets spent on expensive toys and rubbish off Amazon.
No real plan on what I’m saving for! I’m lucky as mortgage all paid off so there as an emergency fund or just nice for retirement 🥳🎉
Really wish I was introduced to this way of saving 25 years ago.

Well I'd say a mortgage free home and a work pension would be minimum. A kilo of gold is say £60,000 which would give approximately £3,000 pa in a cash isa. As they say gold pays no interest. But it has advantages. You can hide it from governments, pass on quietly to family, spend it gradually as and when needed. Probably won't give you 100% security as there is always the worry it could be stolen. The problem is its incredibly addictive , and i think quite a few of us have bought more than what we should have and had to resell to pay for emergencies. In my case a new roof .

With respect spending £500 a week on poor quality sovereigns seems a terrible idea especially if that is the whole of your weekly savings budget. Yes gold has gone crazy in the past few months but it doesn't always do that. Poor quality sovereigns will be difficult to shift other than at rock bottom prices from dealers. Who would melt them down ? That comes at a cost. Another problem is fakes. Cheap looking coins can be cheap for a reason. I certainly wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. Collectors spend years leaning the pitfalls.

Congratulations @Skyfillerand thank you for sharing this achievement with TSF!
It must be an incredible feeling looking at that gorgeous stack. 👌🏼
Great motivational post for us stackers still grinding to get to our own personal targets.
Will you be taking a break from stacking or shall you continue as you are? I hope it’s the latter. 😁
2KG the next milestone target??? 😎
