It's the envelopes that offer provenance, collectors will go mad for these?
Regarding the envelopes, They’re old they have the tape & string attached theirs no mention of the assay office on the envelope.
besides auction buyer details, I read an article a while back reading SF assay office or the US government had a massive auction open to the public years ago….. So my thoughts are they were more than likely purchased during the auction.

Very, very cool. Do these bars get hallmarked at all?
So the story goes folks who had silver certificates cashed in & traded for physical silver, There are other hallmarked varieties of grease bars…. They have the SF assay hallmark logo stamp & occasionally weight etc but they fetch four digit premiums over spot.
Had one years ago, Besides that these are the only other examples I’ve had or seen in person.
P.S outside the bracket of grease bars, You can also find assay office bars from San Francisco/New York produced from the early 1900’s to the 50’s which go for massive premiums…. You can find sold examples on the heritage auction site, for example a 5 oz silver bar would fetch over 5k etc, All down to variety/stamps/physical attraction etc…

Beautiful historical specimens hand poured by the San Francisco assay office, Over half a century old.
Amazing history I’ve attached links to sites with information regarding grease bars -

Super raw crude specimens with beautiful natural patina!
Grease bar 1 - weights roughly around 2320 grams or 74.59 ozs of solid 999 silver.
Grease bar 2 - weights roughly around 3350 grams or 107.72 ozs of solid 999 silver.
Bars come as pictured with the original purchase envelopes 😱😱😱
Roughly total weight - 182.31 ozs
Priced at spot - £4528.58 you’re not buying just silver but history.
Or Trade for 2.5 ozs of 999 gold + £100 your way.
Please add postage on top x 2 packages or happy to meet in (Jewellery Quarter) Birmingham.

Sad, that is why these fakes need to be removed from circulation. I thought you would have had as a minimum a sigma to test out in the field.
That coins has to be thicker or wider to make the weight. If the seller knew it was a fake with of half the gold content, they they are scum.
I honestly have no idea if they knew or not, But not getting back to me definitely isn’t doing much on their favour.
I could continuously ring or even drive over, But I guess it’s my own fault. (Hard lesson learnt, First time something like this has happened to be honest).
I had the sigma, Everything else was as is…. the sigma was reading this slightly over at the time it weighted correct so didn’t think much of it, as I’ve had actual RM minted coins not test on the 22ct setting on a sigma before….. but they tested fine on a XRF I believe it has something to do with the alloy composition. (More silver etc).

Probably best to get it out of circulation ASAP and scraped tbh.
I honestly would do it without a drop of a heart beat, if only I paid for 10.5ct…. but I got burnt on this one really bad, I paid 22ct on this after I found out…. I contacted the seller to no availability.
If I can sell as a lot I can recoup my costs, If not may sell the mule on another platform & just keep the repro as a lesson learnt token.

Who can see a monkey face in the 2nd image or is it just me who finds faces in things.
How much would you want for just the nugget? @StackSellRepeat
Honestly prefer letting it go as one piece, But Aussi high grade nuggets usually fetch anywhere from £100-120 per a gram.
That should give you a right price guide.

Gorgeous!
Having a raw gold nugget is on my bucket list, and that's a lovely looking one, but sadly I'm not in a position to take it. I'm sure someone will snap it up, though!
Can’t get any more real than owning a piece of natural gold which was formed since the beginning of earth supposedly, I’m sure I can help you tick one off your bucket list.
