  1. And here’s some more inspiration…some of my favourites from my collection 😃
  2. Thanks, looks well set out. Now I have three books on my list to buy 🙄
  3. Which reference book is this please Matt?
  4. Pistrucci’s classic George & Dragon on a Silver Crown (£5) is a thing of the past and I think the last time it was used in this denomination prior to this 2013 issue, was on the 1951 George VI Festival of Britain Crown? This Lovely Crown arrived today- it’s to commemorate ‘The Royal Birth’ (Prince George). Opening the box up was a delight 😃 Despite the high mintage these are few and far between on the secondary market and prices of them can be eye watering. This one wasn’t too inordinate, price wise, it’s starting to tone- which the seller explained and the photos were terrible, which might well have put some of the competition off in the eBay auction.
  5. Welcome to the world of Crown collecting 😃 - you do realise however, that you’re doomed, doomed I tell you. The Crack- Cocaine of coin collecting 😂 I would take @matt1r up on the offer- he can root out some lovely old Silver 👍

    Crowns

I don't have any of these or pre- 1800 just wondering the photo of the William IV- isn't that a Half Crown? And the 1830 George IV- I like the idea of Irish coinage, but its another Rabbit hole to go down.
  7. Since yesterday evening, I haven't been able to access my account at the RM
  8. Agreed- in the last Sovereign Rarities Auction, some of the lots went for way more money than what you could buy in their shop- and I'm not talking about an older historic coin that might have had more eye appeal, my observations were that these were modern coins! Just a couple of mouse clicks on the same website would have saved a lot of money 🤯 Work that one out! I never will.
  9. You might well be right on the £16k price it might achieve. But a savvy buyer will pay less off the peg- https://www.sovr.co.uk/qe-ii-2021-gold-proof-2oz-gothic-crown-qa-fi22767.html Auctions are a strange phenomenon where people can take leave of their minds in that moment.
  10. 😱 Fair enough. Tight buggers need to sweeten further their ‘loss leading’ Bu Sovereign deal.
  11. Rejoice! 😃 Think about all the useful Postcards you will receive- and each of those letters further denting their bottom line.
  12. Forgive me @jultorsk, could you please explain what you mean?
  13. Both lovely, but the Crown snatched it for me 👍
  14. Perhaps your confused too- there isn’t a 2021 😝
  15. Unfortunately, like I said in the original post, I only have the 4 coin 2012 Set- and still on the lookout for a 2012 5 Pound- But I have the other five, 5 Sovereign down sets. They are all nice 😃 And any 5 Pound Sovereign is spectacular. My preference of the special reverses are in this order: 1. 2017- Classic Pistrucci design- a winner every day in my book. 2. 2022- a traditional Royal Arms design that’s fitting for such a remarkable Achievement of a Platinum Jubilee. 3. 2005- Reminiscent of the 1935 stylised Rocking Horse Crown. 4. 2012- an intricate and exciting take on the George & Dragon design- the Dragon looks fearsome, the Horse terrified and St George focussed and driven. 5. 1989- a classic intricate design and most people’s favourite. 6. 2002- beautiful understated design. They are all winners.
  16. With eyes diverted toward the Gothic and 2022 Sovereign releases, Rich goes old- school, snipes around the defense and…Goal……!!!! Hits the net with a 2002 Sovereign Set 😃 I’m still on the hunt for a 2012 5 Pound Sovereign, so in the meantime the 2 Sovereign down will have to suffice. Which of the six special Reverse big boys is your favourite?
  17. £13,995? Well, there's one priced at that on your website 😉
  18. I’m pretty certain that some people got early access to the RM site early- as early as 0830hrs. I was pig sick this was the case as I saw this post in real time- I was number 1280 in the queue- and knew that if the cupboard was being raided at 0830hrs then I wouldn’t stand a chance- if one person got in, then likely many hundreds did, that would put paid to all denominations other than 2oz Silver. Fortunately for me, I got on the phone at 9am and was on hold for 105 minutes but at 1045 I got served- and got a 2oz Silver- when my access was available online- at 1110- there was bugger- all left.
  19. And you’ll be thanking me for in years to come 😃
  20. Fantastic pick up- what a beautiful Crown- I bet a pound to a penny that in hand it’s 10 times better looking with lovely underlying brilliance. They don’t come much better than this 👍
  21. I realise the herd has moved on to the Gothic release- but for anyone who continues to follow the beloved Sovereign here's something that you might be interested in: I did this exercise initially on the 20/11/2021 and last on the 29/11/2021 (results below at the very bottom of this post) and updated today Saturday 11/12/2022, I've repeated it - so you don't have to! Using the search term '2022 Sovereign' on eBay on Saturday 11/12/2021: Significantly- there are still surprisingly few, in terms of the amount of 2022 Sovereign issues for sale (all denominations and sets). The figure of live sales on eBay has doubled since I last completed the exercise there are currently 83 sales posts (Previously 41) using the search term described above. 5 Coin set- 5 Sales ranging between £5795 through £6995- Average sale price- £6348- NO FURTHER SALES 4 Coin Set- 2 Sales ranging between £3250 through £3750- Average sale price- £3500- NO FURTHER SALES 3 Coin set- 4 further Sales- (previously 7 Sales) ranging between £1249 through £1500- Average sale price on 4 sales is down- £1337 (previous average £1391 on 7 sales) Sovereign- 17 further Sales- (previously 27) ranging between £675 through £799- Average sale price on 17 sales is down- £737- (previous average £762 27 on 17 sales) Half Sovereign- 11 further Sales- (previously 13) ranging between £369 through £424- Average sale price on 11 sales slightly down to - £408 (previously average £416 on 13 sales) Sovereign/ Half Sovereign combo- 1 Sale at £1300 NO FURTHER SALES Not a scientific or absolutely accurate view of how the 2022 Sovereign is progressing, but I'm sure those invested in them will be encouraged by this Special Release's performance. Previous data 29/11/2021: 5 Coin set- 5 Sales ranging between £5795 through £6995- Average sale price- £6348 4 Coin Set- 2 Sales ranging between £3250 through £3750- Average sale price- £3500 3 Coin set- 7 Sales ranging between £1195 through £1650- Average sale price- £1391 Sovereign- 27 Sales ranging between £699 through £885- Average sale price- £762 Half Sovereign- 13 Sales ranging between £375 through £486- Average sale price- £416 Sovereign/ Half Sovereign combo- 1 Sale at £1300
  22. Agreed- I also think the 1966 is a Proof issue- cameo on Her Majesty’s Portrait 👍 I like them all- thanks again 😃
  23. Also- you positively know they are very high grades anyway 😉 And keep the tatty box- mines just as tatty and well loved- it will give people a lovely surprise as to what’s inside 😊
