  1. Hi folks,

I have a question regarding the 2016 bullion half Sovereign.

Last month, someone here posted one, saying it has a mintage of under 500. I started collecting halves only after 2018, so I haven't been aware of this before.

I turned to my Marshs (2017 and 2021) which list that same coin with 1000 and 472 mintage, respectively. The two price sheets still don't attribute any significant premiums.

I then turned to Google and found and bought one which I received these days. They weren't ubuiquitous, true, but nothing that I'd expect from an eight-years-old piece.

Where do we go from here? Is the market for bullion halves so narrow that even 472 pieces are not swallowed up readily? Or is the mintage number incorrect?

Yes, it looks like virtually impossible to find double sovereigns from German/EU dealers, as the RM sell them exclusively. No sign of Coronation Doubles so far from anybody.

In the meantime I found the bullion quarter Coronation sovereign at a German dealer. Arrived this morning right before I left for late shift.

However, it came without the blister package, unlike the previous editions, and is now sitting in an oversized 1 Eurocent capsule.

How did you receive yours? Did RM change their procedure? Does it mean they have them available in tubes now?

  3. Somehow, being a true namesake of the Biblical person, I am not convinced.  Of course, I'd need to see the coin with my own eyes, but I am suspicious.

If, in fact, a minted coin wasn't ejected and another planchet was fed into the machine, some interesting things can happen to the two pieces. But not an sharp, flipped image. The rim would be smashed in or caved in, the flipped image would necessarily be concave (which I did not see in the photos of that coin), etc.

Anyway, an interesting topic which I will follow closely from the mainland.

Quarter and Double Sovs seem to be RM exclusive unfortunately. BBP EU may end up being the only real option for Europe too.

That's worse than I expected... Still waiting for my memorial double bullion from RM. It is announced for delivery today, after being held by Customs for full three weeks before they found it's VAT and customs-free, it seems. Hoped to avoid RM as much as possible, not because of their services but because of Geman customs... Haven't checked out BBP EU lately, though.

I think most places will have them over the next few days now they are officially released. but if not it'll be worth getting some.. holding off for now. See how it goes

Nobody in Germany has them. It's all pre-sales. Delivery date announcements (or let's say: expectations) vary wildly. So far, no quarter and double bullion sovs are listed anywhere, just full and half.

Yes, but RM has quite high premiums on BU/bullion sovs already. In my observations over the past years, retail prices in Germany were markedly lower than RM, not to mention hassles with Customs. The latter seems to alleviate over time but I won't go through all of this for naked bullion sovs. The blister cards are a different matter as they are almost exclusively available at RM, unfortunately.

  7. I was a bit delayed and went to the site at around 1035 (935 GMT). Was queued at 21xx, went to 20xx slowly and then they suddenly let me in. Bought a full sov only, but no half as planned as there will be a bullion range.

Let's see when the waylayers here will finally deliver it to my mailbox. The EUSSR tyrants at Brussels have recently introduced yet another customs form to make life even harder here, even when the pieces remain customs- and VAT-free.

If you only had the funds to purchase one of these products which would be the best? The Piedfort? It’s mintages went down to a relatively low level.

'The best' under which aspect? For most collectors, the full sov is the must-have. In terms of future value, I still think the full sov is the best, but the quintuple may be close.

I will try to catch a full and a half.

It’s not really about how quick the RM can get any coin out, they can’t get the Charles coins out until his portrait has been done and then approved by the various people and then Charles.

I am pretty sure they have a lot of Charles portraits available, a hell lot. I don't expect much delays in the transition from QEII to ChIII.

  10. Gosh, that went fast. My condolences to everyone here. Although I have never been a monarchist, she always was the exception to the rule.

How are the bets that Charles Philip Arthur George abdicates right away and gives over to William?

Numismatically speaking, I ordered an additional double, two full and two half bullion 2022 Sovereigns this afternoon when the news began to trickle in.
