I don’t think there’s a mole in the Royal Mint if that’s what you’re meaning to say. Probably a high probability it’s someone on this forum. Lets start a witch hunt! (Thats a joke before the witch hunt does actually start…flipping is an emotive subject after all).

Depends entirely on the coin. If it’s a U.K. Royal Mint release with a face value then this answers it quite nicely from atkinsons website. “All coins produced by the Royal Mint that qualify as British legal currency are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. This includes all silver and gold Britannia coins and post-1837 gold sovereign coins, including proof sets. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s my understanding of it).

Completely unrealistic but I would have been really interested in this if they were actually hammered. What a unique modern release that would have been, and likely a nightmare for the grading companies (bonus!) Saying that I can just imagine the tsunami of thread pages with all the whining we would all do about rim nicks and imperfections.

I genuinely think it’s something to do with the rose gold fad that seemed to be flavour of the month a few years ago I.e. phones, Apple watches, Fitbits, Pandora bracelets etc etc. Anything and everything was being released in “rose gold”. Perhaps they thought it would appeal to a wider/younger audience by trying to jump on this particular band waggon by marketing them this way. I don’t actually mind them but most stackers clearly think they look garbage, but then again we all still end up buying them anyway so what reason do they have to change 🤷‍♂️

100% agree. Having skin in the game with this one I’m really hoping this is the only issue of a SOTD plain edge matte sovereign with the special reverse. Nice low mintage compared to the proof and would clearly do wonders for its future collectibility. Though saying that, what’s the usual number of SOTD Sovereign releases per year that we have seen recently? 2/3? Theres probably more chance of my child’s rocking horse taking a s**t than the RM only releasing one SOTD Sov this year.

@Yorkshiremanc A damn shame and perhaps a shred of evidence to the widely held feeling that defective returns are being sent out to unsuspecting victims. I do hope that you are adequately compensated. All completely unsurprising though with the steaming turd of a reputation they seem to have garnered. If you have a spare moment the trustpilot reviews really do make for some entertaining reading material.

Certainly not as impressive as @paulmerton haul but a 2022 Bullion Sov + a buckshee 1oz Britannia using BBPs referral system. Quite impressed with the quality of the strike on the sov, looks much nicer in hand than on the promo material.

In all seriousness I do think a loupe has its place but as @westminstrel and others have said, it’s very easy to over do it and spoil a coin for yourself once you go down that road, especially at higher powers. It all a bit of a moot point when it comes to grading as I’m sure many people here will tell you that they’ve seen some right dogs of coins sat in 69/70 graded slabs. If the grader deems that the imperfections were created during production rather than post production then its all good apparently. Who knows how they do that, perhaps they throw down some shamanic voodoo chicken bones or use a time machine to find out the exact time the imperfection came about.

No I still very occasionally buy proofs or other premium releases. For example only yesterday I preordered the 2022 SOTD BU Sov. More recently I’ve somewhat reconciled my lunatic perfect coin hunt tendencies and aside from a good check over with the naked eye, it will be going away to be kept for the long term. I will say though that I do try and generally stay away from modern proofs due to the associated potential headaches, that’s just me though.

Yes it was, this particular coin was a 2005 proof sovereign that I purchased from a dealer perhaps three or four years ago. In my case I just sent it back for a refund for as ridiculous as it sounds, I just could not enjoy owning the coin. I also did not want to deal with issues if I was to come to sell it on (even though the imperfection I had spotted was absolutely minuscule and you wouldn’t notice it with the naked eye, much like the ones on your coin). Between Royal Mint queues, (lack of) QC practices, secondary market instant flippers and grading companies, buying modern proofs is an absolute minefield. Even when you sell on raw coins some people expect that you are selling them a coin that will definitely grade PF70. As grading is a subjective process between the graders and the coin who the hell knows what a coin will grade 🤷‍♂️, sometimes I don’t think the graders know either. NGC and PCGS have modern coin collectors by the balls.

I feel with these modern releases it’s hard not to go down the road of chasing a “perfect” coin, especially with all the hype from the community and various shills. The pressure to have a coin that you think will grade as a 70 is just overwhelming. When i began to take notice of grading it near enough ruined the enjoyment of buying and owning raw proof coins because I became obsessed with only having perfect ones. @Slam I’ve had a similar issues in the past where I’ve spent an ungodly amount of time going back to a coin carefully unscrewing the capsule to look at it with a loupe, trying in vain to convince myself that the little defect I’ve noticed isn’t all that bad and I can live with it. It didn’t work for me. Speaking from my own experience of this, unless you can put the quest for that perfect 70 out of your mind, owning this particular coin now that you’ve noticed these little things is probably going to do your head in. Perhaps try for a replacement if you can but when it arrives don't get your loupe out!

Anyone have any idea where these may still be available for pre order? I don’t fancy my chances with the royal mints queue system.

You accidentally wrote it and then both agreed on it, and then even after that you’ve made the payment at the final agreed price of £450? Doesn’t really read like it was an accident, it reads like you’ve changed your mind after the fact. Dont go back on a deal that has been made and finalised. Reputation is everything on here, honour the deal you’ve made.

Been hunting for a while and finally took the plunge and bought this 1918 15 Rupees which arrived today.
