I was straight on this, hoping it was the next ‘atkinsons spot deal’, but it left me sad when the VAT was added at checkout 😔

You still have to pour the metal with any type of cast unless you are Vacuum Casting or other specialist casting methods like the cosworth process (was made specially for the cosworth engine blocks) and i dont think any one casting gold or silver would do that.
You dont melt the silver shot in the mould, it would kill the mould.
Even large scale foundrys only use a mould one time and make a new one in most applications, even with continuous casting. I know you dont need to do that with gold and silver normally becuse you dont put enough stress on the moulds for it to warrant it normally.

This video shows a 250g Umicore cast bar - we can see a horizontal ding on one edge of the bar - looks like an after casting mark

Now Out Of Stock 28.01.24 Pre-owned 1kg silver bar (mixed mints) - £697.90 at BullionByPost inc. delivery.
Cheaper than all other main dealers, which is unusual for BBP in my experience, and made me pull the trigger on one. Anybody got any experience with pre-owned mixed mint bars? What am I most likely to get? 😃
I know you can probably get cheaper on this forum/ebay, but it’s a good option for someone not confident enough yet to buy on here!

These days I only buy preowned on the VAT margin scheme, but you’re still paying 20% premiums on kilo bars, more on coins

You need to be very careful about buying silver since Brexit and the UK being cut off from the low tax silver that used to be so plentiful.
As i am in the EU i can get 2024 Britannias like this - that's £20.87. Granted there is delivery but i get goldsilver.be to keep the silver in the client vault and send it when i have a good lot.

Personally i would not buy from UK dealers unless there was something i really liked in the margin scheme. I do buy silver off TSF. There are good deals to be had. There are good deals b/c i buy some of them - but often you have to be very quick.
If you are 'investing' then you should not be buying silver with VAT on it if you can avoid that and you can. You are investing in silver - not collecting a particular coin you can only find at a dealer's. Buy what you like but get a liking for pieces that represent good value and are easy to sell when the day comes you need to sell. If you don't do that and you have to sell in a hurry you may well come unstuck. However if you have items that were already in the aftermarket and were good value, it means someone else has experienced the potential loss and not you.

i used the phrase 'investing'. Remember you are not an investor, not a trader - you are a hobbyist, a collector. This may be important when it comes to selling b/c you are selling your private property, your chattels. You do not have to face any CGT issues then. Worth searching for chattels on the forum for the discussions.
Try to avoid ebay - it is full of scam merchants. i try to avoid buying low numbers of coins - the postage per coin is too high. i do look to having the coins sent SD - right now i have a problem with a bar i bought. The Royal Mail had it the parcel had been delivered except the photo of the front door wasn't the right one - it wasn't a door anywhere near the delivery address. It turns out it was a house 1.5 miles away. The post office has apparently said they will get someone to go round to the address (which i do not know the identity of) and get the parcel back. It has all been tracked and it is all insured. Shlt happens sometimes.

Totally agree and glad to see someone else is noticing this. I am finding sale items on TSF ever more increasing in price. Some sales are only a £1 or 2 lower than dealers incl. VAT. I now find myself comparing dealers prices to TSF and not the other way around!
And let’s not forget who and why VAT increased from 17.5% …. back in 2011 we said it wouldn’t work and clearly we were right!

I just can’t see the logic in going after such niche markets as coins commemorating members of the extended royal family. Does feel like RM are struggling to keep their customer base. Keep innovating on bullion coin quality/security I’d say 👍

I don't believe RM will be able to cancel for everybody
    Let's look at RM's T&Cs:
    Price and payment
Subject to clause 9.3 and 9.5 below, the price of any Products, services, and storage or delivery (where applicable) will be as quoted on, or calculated by reference to, our website and promotional materials from time to time or the order or request process pursuant to clauses 3, 8.4 and 10.2, except in cases of obvious error (being a manifest or clerical error/typographical error). Subject to clause 9.3 and 9.5 below, the price of any Products purchased via telephone or post will be as advertised from time to time (such prices correct at the time of printing), except in cases of obvious error. These prices include VAT (if applicable, and unless stated otherwise) but exclude delivery costs, which will be added to the total amount due as set out in our invoice. Delivery costs shall be as quoted on the Platform or advertisements promotional materials (whichever is applicable) from time to time, except in cases of obvious error. Where you are purchasing Products for delivery outside of the UK, you will be responsible for payment of any and all sales taxes and import duties or equivalent, in connection with the sale, importing and delivery of the Products, due and payable in the jurisdiction in which the Products are ordered and/or delivered. For further information on EU deliveries following Brexit in particular, please see here. Unless otherwise provided by us, Bullion Product prices displayed include the precious metal price plus any applicable premium (calculated by reference to sourcing, manufacturing, quality-checking process and other associated costs). From time to time we may, at our complete discretion, require a non-refundable deposit for certain Products. The timing(s) and amount(s) of a deposit, along with any deposit retention scale(s) in the event of a cancellation of an Order, will be communicated to you in writing before you purchase the relevant Product. If we accept and process any order or request where a pricing error is obvious and could reasonably be recognised by you as mispricing, we may end the Contract and refund you any sums you have paid and request the return of any Products provided to you. The important bit is if their error in pricing is obvious. If their error is not obvious or may be similar to offers from other retailers then RM don't have the legal right to renege. If they had sold at £500, i.e. below spot, that may have been a clear and obvious error, or if they had sold at £5 it would be obvious. But they didn't. They sold at above spot during a special black Friday promo. It is reasonable for customers to assume this is a real offer as you can find similar offers from other retailers both domestically and abroad (spot gold)
We reserve the right to vary, modify, withdraw or cancel a Promotional Code at any time. The specific terms and conditions, including the expiry date, relating to each Promotional Code (Specific T&Cs) will be advertised with the Promotional Code either at our website royalmint.com or within the Promotional Code marketing materials. These terms and conditions will apply along with the Specific T&Cs however, if there is a conflict or inconsistency between both, the Specific T&Cs will control and prevail. Unless we otherwise explicitly provide in the Specific T&Cs, Promotional Codes: cannot be applied to orders already placed; must be used before an order is placed; cannot be used to discount delivery charges; are only valid while stocks last; cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, discount or promotion; are non-transferable and non-assignable; cannot be redeemed or exchanged for cash or credit; and may be excluded from certain Products. Subject to any agreements with third parties, we reserve the right to withdraw a Promotional Code at any time, and refuse to apply the Promotional Code to the purchase of Products, for any reason, including where: in our opinion, the Promotional Code is invalid for the order you have placed; there is an instance of fraud or tampering; we or you face technical errors; circumstances beyond our control mean we cannot apply the Promotional Code. From reading the above I take it RM are within their rights to cancel for everyone who also took the free 50p and for those who are on pre-order (the item on promo is out of stock)
Depending on your interpretation of the above you might also argue RM could theoretically cancel on all of us but it's like VAR, for it to be active there has to be a clear and obvious error from the referee. Selling gold at a fraction above spot price is not a clear and obvious error therefore RM cannot argue their price was artificially or obviously wrong
Sorry for the TL:DR, I asked the opinion of our friendly GPT (who has passed the Bar exam with flying colours) and this is what it said:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the UK, as in many jurisdictions, contract law plays a crucial role in determining the rights and obligations of parties involved in a transaction. When a retailer, such as the Royal Mint in this case, makes an offer and a customer accepts that offer (for example, by placing an order and paying for it), a legally binding contract is generally formed.
If the Royal Mint has mistakenly priced a product too low but has already accepted payments and generated invoices, there might be legal considerations. Generally, contract law would suggest that once a contract is formed, both parties are bound by its terms.
If the Royal Mint decides to cancel orders and refuse to fulfill them at the offered price, it may be a breach of contract. However, there are certain circumstances in which a contract can be considered void or voidable, such as in cases of mutual mistake, misrepresentation, or fraud.
Here are a few key points to consider:
Mistake: If the pricing was a genuine mistake and not intentional, it might be a factor in considering the legality of canceling orders. However, if customers can argue that the mistake was obvious, the legal position may differ.
Terms and Conditions: The Royal Mint's terms and conditions, as well as any disclaimers on their website, may also play a role in determining their rights and customers' rights in such situations.
Consumer Rights: Consumer protection laws may also be relevant, and they often provide consumers with certain rights and protections.
If you find yourself in a situation where a retailer is attempting to cancel orders after payment has been made, it's advisable to seek legal advice promptly. The specific details of the situation and any terms and conditions provided by the Royal Mint would be crucial in understanding the legal defensibility of their actions.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:- Still somewhat unclear but it appears the odds are in our favour to get our orders fulfilled. Should RM decline to fulfil our orders then we have the above to attack them with. One person might not make a difference but a cabal of militant stackers with pre-existing RM accounts - that will definitely make a difference
