PlainSailing got a reaction from Solly in Vienna Philharmonic 2018 Silver Coins
I did. I haven't been on here since I first raised the issue with Chris when I received my sweets. Pretty blown away by all the supportive messages and gives me faith in the community here, it seems like it's very rare. The few prior experiences I've had on here have been very positive. I am usually very careful and have never really been properly scammed before, anywhere. I thought I had done my due diligence looking at his history but there are some subtleties I missed being so inexperienced here.
I believe it was just the 3 of us that got scammed by him. Not sure if more people have come forward than that. I'm still catching up with all the messages on this thread. I'm only halfway through.
The delivery note that I received from SilverSells was from Peterborough. This was my first suspicion of a scam as it had been sent via second class and the details on the right were missing, ie the weight, but I didn't know that at the time.
I'm still in communication with my bank to try and get the funds back. They are going the route of the CRM code so not so straight forward. Annoying as I usually pay with a Halifax account but this time I didn't.
A very kind and generous offer by BackyardBullion but hopefully the bank will return the funds and people can keep their silver.
I will post any updates here.
    Cheers

1 1/2 hours it took me to open a metro account a couple of years back. This was in a branch with a folder full of documents.
When I opened a revolut account i did it on the toilet before my legs went numb.
Really easy, maybe too easy but convenient if you don't trust the internet.

Sounds like @Scuzzle got the last of his Silver if I'm reading it right.  After that it was just stealing.
I would avoid bank transfers to any bank that is not a big high street bank.  Period.  I don't know which bank was being used in this instance, whether it was a high street bank or not.  If it is a high street bank then there's more of a chance that the individual can be easily located by the police.
I've narrowly avoided being scammed on several occasions when buying from facebook (car parts), and the common denominator each time was the bank.  It's a big red flag now when someone tells me that their bank account is Starling bank.  Not sure why, but I think there must be some easy set up accounts there or something.  Internet only, no branches etc.  Not saying that they are a bad bank, only that my personal experience has been lucky escapes all with requests to transfer to that bank.  I am highly suspicious of non high street banks now as a rule.

I have set up a new thread for donations to what I am calling "scammer victim" pool.
If you have lost money to this situation please get in touch and we can look to divide up any donations that come in.

If I remember correctly you bought in addition to a full tube a tube containing 17 coins and had to source another 3 from BYB
When @SilverSellsthen starts offering for further full tubes sale this was a warning sign for me as it seemed to me that the part tube would have been his final stock of these coins

I am happy to supply the individual’s name by PM to anyone affected and in answer to a previous comment on whereabouts the coins were posted in WOOLWICH if it helps

It looks like this character was acting in a carefully planned way by his messages and actions - the smoke screen to sow confusion with investigating officials with messages referring to sweets then packages (with proof of postage) bearing the same. It seems over the top to normal folks but if this character is a pro grifter could be running multiple identities pulling the same trick with all of them, giving him a steady scam income stream and leaving burned ID's behind. Thus what looks like relatively low-level scamming can actually be quite a well organised ongoing large scale fraud. The obvious difficulties with this are:
    1. The need for multiple burner addresses - but not so difficult in bed-sitter land.
    2. The need for multiple burner bank accounts - I am not trying to demonise anyone but facts are facts - there are certain demographics in our society who can obtain bank accounts with remarkable ease without the need for credit references, utility bills or other proofs of residence. For 'bad guys' access to bank accounts is not a problem.
This just highlights the need to be vigilant with all sellers and not just newbies - I don't know of a 'water tight' solution given that the Forum is trust based but we must not loose sight of the 99.99% of the time  when it works remarkably well for everyone's benefit Although it has to be said that there are some honest sellers whose communication could do with tightening up - you know who you are - to salve rattled nerves.
