  1. I sometimes get tempted to buy the movie themed coins, but then I always just end up buying the cheaper bullion. I do collect non PM coins and rounds though. But as I say, when it comes to PM (and not being rich) I go for cheapest way to add weight.
  2. Shrinkflation will probably end up getting this bad, we live in clown world now.
  3. Yep, gold over paper any day of the week. That 50 peso coin is really a great looking chunk of change, bet it feels amazing to hold in your hand.
  4. Eat ze bugs and own nothing. Meanwhile, free people everywhere 🖕
  5. And sadly the memorial proof sovs are still in stock almost everywhere. It didn't seem to do as well as I thought it would. Also, chards has a promotion started today for cheap memorials, currently £386 a sov. But weirdly they are out of stock and have been for a while now. Not sure why they would have a big promotion but have non in stock. 🙄
  6. Indeed, I am interested to know that as well, you never know if it's a mint error and it's a rare one at that, it could fetch a more attractive price should you ever sell it in the future. Or it could just be a quirk with that coin that is common. I wish I had one in my hand to check it. Let me know if you ever find out. Cheers.
  7. I don't own one of these coins, so i can't check. The security pattern on this coin is meant to resemble chain mail, and one would presume is difficult to replicate. So I would say as long as your pattern looks to match up with the real deal and you bought it from a reputable and well known coin dealer, then it's almost certainly genuine. The royal mint have been known to produce a lot of coins with mint errors, so perhaps this is some kind of mint error on with the seemingly out of place dots. But this is coming from someone who is just an enthusiastic amateur, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt.
  8. Mine arrived today as well. It is such a lovely little bar! It took me back a bit just how tiny it is, but not sure what I was expecting, it is only 1 ounce after all. You can see the love BYB puts into them, they're fantastic. Thank you!
  9. More reasons for me to never use ebay. Sorry this happened to you OP, hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.
  10. Yeah I take that point on board and agree. Demand seems to be on the increase for sure.
  11. I don't think this is in the area which OP is talking about. He is specifically talking about a unique issue with Chards and the b grade gold sovereigns and the wait time when ordering them (since they are pretty much always out of stock)
  12. I've never ordered out of stock sovereigns from Chards, but I do remember a heated thread a few months back on here where a rather disgruntled customer was complaining about the same thing. As far as I have gathered, if you purchase the cheaper sovereigns which are "orderable" then the wait can be "indefinite" and apparently this is made very clear by warning pop ups during the purchasing process which you have to acknowledge to proceed with the sale. I have my own opinions about this, I personally wouldn't buy the "orderable" items, but i suppose it's a good option for the person who wants the most cheapest sovereign possible but is not too fussed about when they receive the coins.
  13. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I would say that maple is fine. It looks right to my eye. As for the weight, some of these small spice/jewellery scales can be notoriously inconsistent (especially the cheaper ones) when checking the weight of things and often give less accurate readings at the decimal level.
  14. Happy Coronation day everyone. I hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable day. God save the King! 👑
  15. Thanks, some food for thought there. 👍 Yes I believe I did order the correct capsule. I was shopping for a memorial bullion sov but noticed Chards didn't have the usual link at the bottom for the correct capsule that fits the coin. I assumed the memorial was the same size as past sovs, so i searched on their website for capsules which fit gold sovereigns and was being shown 22.5mm. So purchased one of those. "This 22.5mm capsule fits a full sovereign or a 20 cent coin." The diameter is spot on, but the depth looks way too deep and it for that reason the coin rattles around too much. Comparing it to my other capsules of the same diameter, they are much more shallow and so house the coin more securely to my eye. Cheers. Edit: I forgot to mention, as for it possibly being a piedfort capsule, I'm not sure. I don't own a piedfort coin unfortunately so have no knowledge on that. Interesting though, it's possible.
  16. Yeah that's true. I don't know why I bother though, the new sov came with a rather large gouge/scratch. It's only bullion I suppose.
  17. Yeah the extra room is a little too roomy for my liking. They have the same diameter, but the depth in this new one is twice as much as my other capsules. I suppose different companies produce slightly different dimensions from capsule to capsule. The depth it looks like it would be better to hold a 1/4 gold brit instead of a sov. But Chards sells it as the capsule suitable for sovs. I mean it does the job, but the extra rattling around is not good. Cheers.
  18. I bought a sov capsule recently from our friends in Blackpool, but noticed the coin rattles around a lot in it. It's 22.5mm. But I noticed my other capsules are not as deep and the coin does not rattle about as much. The new capsule I received today looks like I could fit 2 sovs in it (stacked on top of each other obviously) I just thought it seemed weird and wondered if I'm missing anything. Thanks for any clarity. Edited to correct 22.5m to 22.5mm. Would be one hell of a coin to fit that 😅
  19. I stopped believing the silver talk which claims it will be £100 an ounce, or even £5000 an ounce right around the corner, any day now! I think if that did happen, a loaf of bread would be a tenner or something. For me silver is just a convenient way to hold a more fractional form of wealth. I don't see it as scheme to get rich. If anything I've lost money on silver at the moment (VAT and premiums will do that). Gold is the safer option for sure, it's been pretty clear to me since I've been in this hobby that the price is steady and seems to keep up with inflation really well. My first ever sov cost me £190 back in 2013 i think, now it's intrinsic value is about 380 quid at the time of writing this. So to me at least gold is the clear safe haven.
  20. I'd like to buy 1 bar. Please add me to the waiting list. Thank you.
  21. I too sometimes wish they would go back to the older way of making the sovs, you can't beat that golden luster. Saying that however, the newer sovs golden copper look is growing on me slightly and I find they have their own strangely attractive charm.
  22. Yeah I know, it's fine. I need faster fingers! 👍 Cheers.
  23. Yeah go on then, I'll take those 10 maples. I'm a newbie though not sure how to proceed. Cheers. Someone beat me again 😂 no problem though.
  24. Damn you have to be fast on here haha. I was tempted by them to make my first purchase.
