I could be interested in the Mr Men on it's own depending on price? Don't have the budget for two quarters together unfortunately.

I bought a gold tenth proof Brit from my birth year on eBay. Came in original box with COA. Very good price (same as bullion) so wasn't too bothered about whether it was a genuine proof or not. When I received it, I noticed the cap hadn't been screwed together properly. Thought I'd just unscrew it to realign it, but with the lightest touch the cap opened, the coin dropped out, bounced down my jeans and ended up on the floor. Marvellous... 😄 My biggest PM regret is probably buying brand new silver Proofs from the RM. I always seem to be disappointed with them. Nothing particularly 'wrong' with them, just don't feel like they're worth 5 times the intrinsic value when I get them in hand. I did start buying PM's on BBP before I realised there were cheaper places for exactly the same item. But I don't class that as a regret, was part of the learning curve. 🙂

If you're happy with a 1/4oz KC3, they are still cheapest on the Royal Mint website currently. Around £420 with free postage at time of posting. Both Bleyer and Atkinsons are more expensive. I'm after one myself, but rather frustratingly can't have SD deliveries at my address and RM won't allow an alternative address at that price point.

Just VAT. I was only charged VAT on this parcel, no duty. I didn't know which I'd been charged when I started this thread, but it was itemised on the label when it arrived. I now believe duty is mainly for things like cigarettes and alcohol but could be wrong there.

Thank you. That makes sense! Good to know they both look genuine. 🙂

Ok, so probably not fortune. 😄 Interested to know whether you'd say this is genuine PCGS or not though. The number can be verified online, but the pale label made me question whether it's a copy? Reverse

I wish my raw eye sight was as good as some of these cameras! 😄 I've recently discovered my phone takes better photo's if I hold it further away but magnify by around 1.5x. (Magnify is a swipe upwards on the right hand side of the screen)

East India Company - Gold and Silver Sale
Minted replied to westminstrel's topic in General Precious Metals
Nice offer and some nice items but shipping costs are very high. £9.95 UK shipping makes a single 1oz silver coin unviable. 🙁 -
Some people collect date runs so lower mintage years would be of interest to them...but that isn't really of any interest to me. I think most date specific coins are bought for birth years. Milestone years seem to be priced higher, but obviously they'll change every year. (For example, this year - 18 = 2005, 21 = 2002, 30 = 1993, 50 = 1973) Then there are major events... Maybe 1989 would be seen as an iconic year in Germany with the fall of the Berlin wall for example?

Mine auto-fills Tesco.com. 😄 TSF is saved as a direct icon on my laptop homepage, just takes one click to open. Works well in my browser, easy to read, easy to see pictures and enlarge them, easy to message other members or leave feedback. I agree this forum doesn't work perfectly on mobile though. Can see why some would prefer an app if regularly using a mobile device.

This is a big problem for me too. On here I generally ask for things to be posted via Tracked48. Or to an alternative address which can then be relayed to me about a week later. The only benefit of 'Special' delivery is the insurance. It doesn't usually get there any quicker. It doesn't offer any more tracking points. It costs more than twice as much as standard options. And causes the hassle of signature or return. Plus, it's advertising to everyone that there's a valuable item inside with the bright silver packaging. Can't stand it myself! 🙄 Of course, if you live in a rough area or have a dodgy postman then the insurance could be useful, but if PM's are packaged discretely (and not rattling in caps lol!) then I doubt they're any more likely to get lost than normal post. Most online retailers will only send to the same address as the card but not all of them. Atkinsons allow a different address if you pay by bank transfer instead of by card. Bleyer allow a different address as well. If anyone knows of others, please let us know. I'm reluctant to use BBP again as they don't allow an alternative address - but I do want that gold Koala. 😅

Thanks to both of you. 🙂 I got the chance to check the Batarang yesterday while putting away some newly received PMs. Turns out it's in a fitted capsule inside the Apmex bag! I should probably go to Specsavers. 😄
-
That is odd. Is the duty & VAT normally different for importing to Germany than importing to the UK? Also wonder whether you should declare them at the port when you return to Germany? I've got no experience in that area, just interested.
-
I've been assuming (hoping) APMEX wouldn't use PVC in their bags. I have a silver Batarang that I thought would come in a capsule but it just came in a sealed bag. Never going to find a capsule to fit it so I've kept it in the bag for airless storage. Now doubting whether that's the best option. 🤔
-
Yeah, but importing them to the UK adds 20% VAT sadly. Plus $20 shipping. Makes them unviable for me. I wondered if any were being sold by dealers in the UK but it looks like they aren't.

I really like the peace dollar design. Have a few old ones from select years. I assume there's no way to purchase these proofs at a reasonable price in the UK? 🤔

Callipers, Loupe and Magnet recommendations
Minted replied to Nicolaw's topic in General Precious Metals
You can get a free magnet from SilverTrader when buying another coin from there. 🙂 Neodymium Rare Earth Magnet (silvertrader.uk) -
I would assume a lot of buyers just accept it as they don't want the hassle of returns. I haven't returned any PM's so far for exactly that reason, despite being less than content with the quality and condition of a few. I just try a different retailer next time and keep any retailers I have poor experience with as a last resort in future. I'd like to hope they'd realise what's happening and start checking coins before dispatch if enough people do that, but I also accept they may not realise the reason for reduced sales without a direct complaint.

King Charles III Coronation Celebration Bars
Minted replied to paulmerton's topic in General Precious Metals
I'll probably buy a 1oz silver as long as I like design when revealed. As mentioned above, I'd prefer a sealed/carded version as I have with the 3 Graces and the Diamonds are Forever bars. (Been waiting for the next Bond bar for ages - I wonder if they postponed that for these instead?) -
Cheapest was Dancu...but his are long since sold out now. Silvertrader still has plenty in stock, might be worth asking if he can do a better bulk deal than the standard % discounts on his website. There is a disclaimer on them containing imperfections though, so guessing a lot of his are milky. I was so disappointed with my 1oz silver I ended up buying a gold 1/10oz instead. Quality is considerably better than the silver one, but it has a large scratch across the background. 🙄

I've got plenty of 2022 1oz silver in the collection, but don't see much of it coming up on here or eBay at the moment. As above, the premium & VAT means that private buyers will be holding onto recent coins for a few years at least.
