Spanish mint have 1oz at 11% over spot and the 1/10oz at 23.5% over spot.

Absolutely am. I know premiums puts people off certain coins. I got my Horse direct from Spanish Mint premium was 12%. I would actually not order direct again after all the hassle, now resolved, I got from DHL regarding VAT. Only bought it direct as Sharps Pixley , off whom I got the Lynx and the Bull, stated they had no plans to stock the Horse. So what did they go and do? yes in stock now. I do not buy coins just to have gold but because I like something that looks lovely too.
 

Think I can finally lay this matter to rest. Ended up with DHL sending me a veiled threat by email mentioning County Court, cheeky buggars.
Finally got in touch with someone who seemed to know what they were doing, was despairing that anybody at DHL existed about whom I could say that.
I then got a credit note from them for the amount of the invoice  they had sent me. 
Beggars belief they can be so incompetent.

Spot on ,forgive the pun. You have, in my mind, got to like the look of a coin as well not just think of it as a piece of metal which say a bar is.

Only dealer I can find is Atkinsons must be thin on the ground. The 16% premium does not help.

I did get through to HM Customs and Excise, eventually, who said DHL would have used the incorrect Customs Declaration Code, CDC
Appears is laid out in VAT section 701/21 section 8.1 which DHL should be aware of. Sounds like DHL are random in how they list items.
Spoke with supposed DHL UK invoice queries, pointless some woman in India who had no clue whatsoever.
So have documented the details and said to DHL over to you.
Will await developments.

DHL say they paid the VAT on my behalf and now want it off me.
Have told them VAT is not payable on gold.
I know Backyard Bullion had same problem some time ago.
Would you suggest I contact Customs and Excise?

Lightest gold bars I have ever seen. I would suggest Bond checks them for purity.

My thoughts same as yours, 100g is big enough. Any bigger and if you need to shift in a hurry may be a problem unless you take a significant hit.
 
If 1st 65 is set on a bar flog 3 Britannias , buy a 100g bar👍
