SovereignBishop reacted to Dazlenk in GOLD DEALS - (UK & Europe) See a deal, post it here
Just ordered one of these, seems to have gone through ok, hell of a price. I really need to stop logging onto this forum for a while. Everytime I do I seem to end up a few hundred quid down! lol. Really not joking either 🙈

I've seen the 1/2 sell for over £100 over issue price...with these coins they will increase in value overtime, just need to hang on to them and of course if spot price goes up so does the premiums 🙂🙂

SovereignBishop reacted to Paul in 2022 Sovereign design revealed?
Received and all look perfect to my untrained eyes
RM to their credit have done excellent with their solution, listened thanks to our collective moans here
foam spacers in every hole to prevent capsules dislodging
Thick velvet protector strip to protect wood
and thick rectangular foam to sandwich all together to prevent any movement in transit
So anyone awaiting their set still should hopefully have their mind at ease
The £5 is a beauty

I think the half sovereigns lower mintage has been a topic of discussion on times in the past. It has to be a positive. We'd obviously rather low mintage so maybe they will be more appreciated one day. It's just that the full sovereign seems like the go-to for collectors...
Gram for gram, half and full sovereigns don't seem too far apart in their values, generally speaking.

Of course, I think of all the coins released for the jubilee, a sovereign of some kind is the best option in my humble opinion.

To be honest, it is not a coin I am the least bit interested in. I am not enamoured by the design nor the subject matter. To me , the RM premiums are verging on the criminal. Do we have the crime of racketeering in the UK?

Yes I think so to. It is all over the place with the RM at the moment.
I got the 2022 half Sov proof. I wanted the full version but couldn’t find it anywhere other than for £1000! Regardless, I will enjoy looking at it more than the horseback design 50p.

Oh I see. Well if that's what they said then likely your dispatch was up to 5 weeks for your particular order as they kept extending the estimate as time wore on. I might have been looking at it early doors or something.
What proof half sov did you get?
-
SovereignBishop got a reaction from Samcrewsilverlover in Proof Jubilee 50ps opinions
I was told when I called dispatch would have been up to 5 weeks. I cancelled it 😡 now I see them selling for that price.
I bought a proof half Sov instead and will keep it see what happens to the price.

@booboobear A quick search on ebay suggests you should not cancel your order. -

If I'm not mistaken, I vaguely remember the piedfort being one of the few that was actually ready for dispatch, with most other versions being subject to long waits of 4 to 9 weeks. Seems like a good selling opportunity if you don't want to hold...

@KevinFlynnthat is a situation I’m sure many people Have experienced.
I was considering collecting that set but this post is another reason against the idea.

For me, this is the worst part of silver as a collectible. Especially for someone like me who has mild OCD

So gold for investment and silver for pleasure.

This post sums it up completely for me. Great perspective.
I will continue with silver as a hobby under no illusions it will probably lose me money.

I agree the premiums are passed on, unless milking occurs which sees coins being flogged off much cheaper than minters.
another gamble I suppose.

If you could point me in the right direction that would be great.
by scrap do you mean pre 1947/20 coins or spoons ect ?

When you bought yours for low teens, was that before VAT was applied to silver ? That is the major killer in my opinion. I wouldn’t buy a £100 share in a stock for £120 and I wouldn’t buy a £20 note for £25, but I’m happily ordering silver which includes the VAT either directly or in directly.

Looking at silver bullion in the UK, I wonder if it is actually worth all the hassle.
to start with, the VAT on bullion adds a new layer of expense which also affects the second hand market. Leading to 1oz coins selling for £26 plus, well above spot.
For those who do keep their silver long enough to hit profit, the chances the beautiful coins are covered in milk spots or tarnish are high.
I love collecting silver, but have come to realise it is just a hobby. Keeping my fingers crossed my coins don’t end up milk spotting or tarnishing in their capsules.
These are my humble thoughts having recently entered the world of silver bullion and coins in general.
I would welcome any one else’s input especially those who could convince me it is worth buying silver as a hedge or investment.

SovereignBishop reacted to Paul in 2022 Platinum Jubilee SOTD Sovereign
I wonder if RM will do a strike on the day when prince Andrew is imprisoned.
The pizza loving princes portrait, behind bars on a coin might be a popular release??

SovereignBishop reacted to SilverJacks in 2022 Platinum Jubilee SOTD Sovereign
I don't know about comparisons with the proof, but I do know there will be a rather large queue formed on Sunday 6th February.
It's a big day to strike a coin. Perhaps bigger than previous sotd releases.
