Went back and spoke to the owner... He was surprised to learn it was fake and was really nice about it
Offered me my money back without a fuss but I remembered he had another one
Weighed, measured and magnet tested it, it checked out so I took that one instead 👍🏽

I did, but not by hand. I used a laser engraver. Lit a couple boxes on fire before I got the settings just right. For the record, bamboo boxes go up in flames real fast 😆

At present, it is painted with high heat, flat black header paint. Rated for 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Made with the same refractory cement as the steel blast furnaces in Canada. Weighs in at about 55lbs+ empty.
