You know when you get told a story that sounds so outlandish.. (for the last 6 years, am I right? 😁)
I am asking if there is seriously a possibility this is true. A friend regaled me about a long story of his father's burglary some years ago, during which his gold was stolen from behind a filing cabinet, with nothing else touched. He went on to say a family over the road had the same very specific robbery happen to them. He seemed to indicate it was believed to be a gold detector of some sort and said they would now put any holdings in a lead lined box.
I pointed our a few alternative scenarios, for example it's likely "somebody talked", he also pointed out that both families were British Asian heritage, so I wondered if they'd been targeted on the likelihood the might be holding (seems a stretch). Just wondered if anyone had a thought on this, and whether "lead-lined" should be more in our vernacular for these physical holdings? 🙂
(And I'm aware a safe is the answer, but just a thought on this!)

I'm actually something of a fan of trying to waste these guys time. Usually the scam will take you through to a call centre and they'll try to persuade you to give them info or type in something so they can grab your computer remotely. I put them on speaker phone at my desk while I'm working on something else and just take ages to do what they tell me. Up to the crucial point that something they do may be damaging, then just change the topic or muck about.
Record is 15.35 mins. However, I if you want to see a professional, YouTube Kitboga. Glorious.

£505 for a 1oz gold coin? That can't be real. Why would anyone sell gold for less than half the scrap value? Doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
Exactly. Seems like a chance to get cheap bitcoin. Wonder what the gold/bitcoin ratio is 🙂

They're allowing 5 per customer FWIW; usual potential issue though, so many will get minted, in a few years, little to no premium on buyback/sale.
Curious, can they declare a low mintage and then extend it to produce more or are you saying you don't believe mintage for this is low?

There'll be a 1/4 ounce gold available soon as I sent mine back with buyers remorse 🙃

Sounds good, if we have enough notice before a trip we might be able to time it well.
Or, we just drop everything and shoot up if you get a golden pair in!

I would say, for this situation you should be looking at cashing out the big bars and taking coins at the lowest premium you can.
@LawrenceChard Said he might be able to even offer spot price for the bars.
If you then go to any major dealer, including Chards they will likely be able to put together a good deal on older/pre-owned gold or at least lower premium gold at I would expect the 3% range over spot price.
This is an acceptable margin if it were me, to change up and have the more liquid gold. Most of the coins you would get can hold a few % over spot price if sold on the second hand market privately too, much easier and much better than a 500g lump.
In theory, this whole process should cost you no more than 3% of the value you get for your gold, that means you would effectively be out of pocket the sum of about 45 to 50 grams of gold, so about £2000 as a guide.
The other option is to hold onto the gold for a long time and then when the time comes sell it to a dealer. Personally I would prefer the liquidity of coins.
In fact, I have a video coming out tomorrow talking about owning a Kilo of Gold - I would take this spread over a big bar any day (although I would kill to at least see/hold and play with a kilo bar of gold on YouTube!)
This is what a KILO of gold looks like, in coin (and 1 bar) form....
For those that will do the maths this is actually a little over 1 kilo
22x 1 ozt
11x 1/4 ozt
5x 1.206 ozt
1x 1.175 ozt
1x 0.235 ozt
Total ozt: 32.19 ozt or 1001.26 grams of gold content
Say you saw inflation coming without saying you saw inflation coming 😮

Just got mine today too, had a chat with a nice guy on the phone yesterday - he tried to sell me a proof but i politely declined.
I feel we are vilifying these guys a bit too much without them being here to defend themselves - I know we wouldnt like it if we were in thier shoes. No one likes being talked about in such ways behind thier backs.
We know it's a marketing move, nothing is free in this world, so buying at below spto does come with them trying to upsell on the phone, I'm OK with that...
I for one, I'm grateful we can participate in this deal - i hope other dealers will do deals like this too!
THanks @Coolsmp!! And thanks to H&B for the great deal!
Lets be possitive, grateful, rather than hateful.
Yeah, I'm certainly over my initial reaction when i saw £319 but then £349 in the body of the print. Fully onboard with the move theyre making.

Thanks for explaining the economics. It felt like that was the plan, just poorly executed (e.g. displaying the offer price and the usual price same page). Reassuring to know you'd be inclined to predict all would be well.
Good news, it turned up this morning, so all is well. Thanks again @LawrenceChard for your input, and absolutely @Coolsmp for spotting it. Bravo.

To answer the question without sounding like an ass, no 1/4 oz golds are not large gold coins IMO.
I said warts and all! Thank you

The larger golds have done well in auctions that I have seen.
I see, thank you - would you consider 1/4 ounce as a "larger gold" - sorry, to drill down!

OK, I've got the Who 1/4 ounce gold coin. As a newbie, can j ask, what are peoples feelings on that retaining its value (give it to me warts and all) even if spot starts tanking?

I have never known them fail to honour their loss-leader deal, after all, they make these offers in full knowledge thay they make a loss on the first sale. It is their cost of getting you onto their database, and hopefully onto their mailing list.

I didn't have any issues with H&B. I set my account to no marketing and told the account manager when I had my initial issue setting up for the £299 offer. Thus far, no issues with junk mail.
I'll see how it plays out. The registration does specify you actually have to contact them to stop marketing but we'll see.

Today I also ordered a sovereign at £319. Some negative reviews re the company so exercise caution.
Make sure you download your receipt (order confirmation), which does show £319. They haven't sent the receipt via email. You can also see your order status after logging in under your account dashboard. My card payment is pending at £319.
A sovereign at today's spot price is little over £313. Fingers crossed they do the right thing and honour our orders.
I've had a reservation email through with the order / purchase details.
Looking at my 3 main go to sites, ATS, Atkinskons and Chards all look at least £9 over this price. Maybe I'm coming at it from the wrong angle but that seems to be bargain, however.... will it stick...

Extraordinary - I'm in awe. Would a lead lined box negate one of those then?
