Here's a Gold coin I recently acquired to add to my collection.
The coin is from the Eastern Roman Empire dated AD 457-474 from
the Constantinople Mint. The obverse depicts Roman Emperor Leo I
and the reverse portrays Victoria who was the Goddess Of Victory in
both war and peace. This Solidus was a highly pure solid 24k Gold coin issued
in the later Roman Empire weighing in at 4.45 grams and 20mm
in diameter. The solidus was the main gold coin of commerce during
late Roman times and this particular coin was also handed out by the late Emperor to
Roman soldiers for 1 months pay as well.
The meaning of SOLIDUS is an ancient Roman gold coin introduced by Constantine
(4th century) and used to the fall of the Byzantine Empire (15th century). This is my first
Gold coin purchased and imo, for myself I couldn't of picked a better one to start off my
    Gold coin collection.

@Petra It's mainly the special reverse I like although I have got two standard doubles,  I love the doubles great size for seeing the beauty of the coin.

I’m 46 now and started collecting coins aged 6 when I was handed an 1886 Morgan.  It was an incredible thing to hold and my father still reminds me how he swapped it for a dollar bill with a waitress when on holiday.
Fast forward 4 decades and I’ve a couple of coins kicking about… and it’s been a journey that has never been about anything other than collecting.  My profile says stacker… I am in someways… but I’m not going to collect and stack scrap.  I have proof coins… because they are important… but they are nowhere near as interesting as the ones that have been slid across a bar 🤠 for tequila or dropped by a pirate! 🏴‍☠️
I think the last few weeks have focussed me more on the bullion value of my two sovereigns, my old Morgan, and the bag of Peseta’s as oppose to the numismatic interest and history which someone eluded to the other evening.
Tonight - I’m reminding myself that the collecting journey is more interesting and important than the bullion weight.  I’m also inspired by the knowledge on this forum - understanding that after 40 years - I know not enough, but I’m doing ok if I wanted to melt and make a few bars.   But which melt pot would I throw the old Racketeers nickel in?
    £60.58 a gram…. Absolutely bonkers!
    Cheers 🥂
