For the modern silver bullion, let’s not forget about the minimum Cost of making, selling, distributing them. 
we always speak about % but the make a silver or gold coin the fix amount it cost to produce etc are the same. Only the metal is different. 
so a 2% of an ounce of gold is 28 pounds. Way much than the premium on modern silver. The cost are more or less the same.  

now, these costs are going down with older pieces which circulation already flattened out the production and promotion costs.

From a collectors perspective they are probably not the grade they'd be interested in. For those interested in just the gold content they are probably seen as an acceptable way of getting low premium gold. Totally agree that for the majority of the market, most would choose the better condition coin but, C grade coins still have their place.
For me, I have had 2 aims in building my collection. 
Firstly I wanted to have a certain amount of gold. For this purpose I've not been too fussy on the condition, as long as its not too bad, ie:- holed, bent, or worn so much the detail has all but gone. I think as a rule these are just sent to the melt pot, unless from a private seller.
Secondly I've been building a collection of mint and date runs of sovereigns. For this collection I've tried to get some slightly better condition coins but I've used what would be classed as C grade as date fillers until a better coin has come along. This has helped bridge the two aims and hopefully kept the cost and premiums down of the overall collection.
As with any thing really, choose what your goals are, and make your decision on their suitability for your needs from that.

1899, 1903 x3, 1910 = 5 half sovereigns. Can't see the photos for some reason so not sure if you've made mistake and it's 4 or 5.

I'm bullish on platinum. It is a small market and if/when gold breaks its all time high in USD terms then platinum will have a lot of catching up to do.
It has just broken out of its long term downtrend. The market will have noticed this and whilst there may be a short term pullback/consolidation I think the general trend will be up from here.
My price target is 1oz of platinum to equal 1oz gold and my timescale is 5 years.
Long term view USD - downtrend is broken

 
Multiyear view USD - The pattern of lower highs and lower lows has changed. We now have a higher low and and higher high i.e. an uptrend
