  1. Such bad customer service knowledge from the Royal Mint. A bullion range was stated in the Gazette announcement mid last year, was in the press release, mentioned briefly at the launch event and stated on their website when the panther was released so to brazenly put this in an email to a customer without seeking the right information is so bad
  2. 2016 2 sov PF70. Only the 1/4 and 1/2 to go to complete the set!!!
  3. They did the same with the Queens Beast. The Griffin Proof and bullion were released 4 years apart!
  4. I was lucky enough to get one of these, my 1st platinum coin. Was worried the 3oz was a large lump of metal to potentially move on in the future so opted for the 1oz. Surprised the Royal Mint have release so few platinum coins for the jubilee, only 3 to my knowledge (3oz piedfort, 1oz and 50p I think). Still got a few months yet, but if thats it then these will be key collectables in the future
  5. Are there any better coin boxes out there than @Alun ones? Doubt it. Sleek, modern and quality build. Lovely way to house my Queen’s Beast bullion (plus completer 😏). I’m tempted to replace the gold completer with a platinum one seeing as its platinum jubilee year and all. Got the idea from @Stuntman. Still keep the gold one in a capsule of course. What do you think?
  6. Just a question, just trying to make sense of the situation, not out to get you mate. The reason why I ask is because knowledge of what dealers were selling the previous coins from the series may have help inform you of the premiums as this isn't a new phenomenon in the proof coin market, especially the great engravers series. Yes this is the 1st plain edge but the Royal Mint isn't known to put exponential prices on top due to exclusivity of the coin (well newly release coins anyways 😩). From what I gather from the parts I've had time to read the perceived authorised dealer element of the transaction is the major issue. Do the Royal Mint need to tighten this? Yes. I'm sure they can create a system where they can be more explicit about which dealers are getting coins at a wholesale price and therefore trusted dealer. Can they stop people buying at RRP then slapping premiums on it? Generally no as its a free market. Also the harsh reality is it perpetuates their business. I've worked for the largest sports brand in the world and while they monitor and make sure it doesn't get too out of hand, the secondary market is the lifeblood of their business and isn't in their interest to shut it down. You know a lot about the watch world. Look at what Patek do with their sports watches. Sell them for £20k then they show up on websites for £150k+! Now 1st release labels and the debacle that is the Royal Mint pre grading coins all at 70? That I stand shoulder to shoulder with you but that's probably for another thread all together
  7. Perfect delivery to start the day. What. A. Stunner 😍😍😍
  8. Apologies if you have answered these questions before but it would be good to know if this is the 1st time you have bought a proof coin, your previous knowledge of the Great Engravers series and your reasons for buying the coin (collector, investor, short term flipper)
  9. A couple of suggestions @ChrisSilver all be it simple ones would be to make the "latest listings" list longer. At the moment it only shows the last 15 so it can quickly disappear off the list if there's an influx of sale posts. My other suggestion would be to bring back the unread feature on this page so people can quickly see which posts they've looked at and which ones they haven't at a glance. It used to be a feature but I think it might have gone when the forum was upgraded
  10. To be honest even if dealers received an allocation of 100 each (which I highly doubt, I'd say closer to 50 each), there will still be around 800+ available via the mint as there wasn't many dealers that had an allocation. I would say access via the Mint Marque will be more detrimental to what's available via general release vs dealers
  11. Thanks! Yep, all from the same set. You can tell from the sequential slab numbers. Luck was on my side for this one 🍀
  12. Wow, nice! You've got this far, you might as well keep going. To be fair 40+ silver proofs won't be too far off the five 1oz Philip Nathan designs money wise lol
  13. 2 more to add to the long term collection. Britannia designs can be hit and miss but the Philip Nathan’s are most definitely my favourites, these 2 in particular. @Royand @trozau can definitely appreciate. I have the 1/4oz in all 5 designs but I think I need all the 1oz’s in my life 😊
  14. They could do a 22k sovereign where the added metal is platinum instead of silver and copper (if that’s even possible). Similar concept to the Ansell sovereign
  15. Picked up the 1/4oz gold. Couldn’t resist 🙈😩😊
  16. It's important to distinguish the differences between bullion, BU (brilliant Uncirculated) and Proof. Bullion and BU are often used interchangeably and therefore assumed that they are the same thing which isn't the case, the number of strikes, creation of the dies, the time taken on the full process is very different: Bullion - 1 strike and machine finished. NGC grading designation MS BU (brilliant Uncirculated) - 2 strikes and hand finished. NGC grading designation MS and usually followed by an additional description to differentiate from bullion coins eg MATTE or DPL (deep proof like) Proof - 6 strikes and hand finished. NGC designation PF Here's a link on the Royal Mint's site that summaries the differences in a little more detail than above: https://www.royalmint.com/discover/coin-collecting/striking-standards/ Here's a video produced by the Royal Mint that goes deeper into the differences in the creation process between the 3. Only 5 minutes long and very informative: /
  17. Just got home to this😊. My 1st platinum coin. Surprised there hasn’t been many more platinum metal coins in a platinum jubilee year. Maybe there are more coming but didn’t want to take the chance
  18. Been looking for this one for a while. 2000 were minted by the Royal Mint however most have been melted down. Top pop and a pretty high grade considering it’s a coin from 1965. Weirdly its not reflected in the NGC census. Will drop them an email. Would love to find a raw one in its original case but I doubt many (if any) still exist
  19. Received my 2022 full sovereign from the Royal Mint complete with a foam piece to secure it so it didn't fall out the capsule. I must say it done the trick!
  20. 1985 full sov in PF70 with the obverse facing up. 1st year the Maklouf portrait made an appearance. Waiting for 1 more to come back from grading and I’ll have the complete set of QE2 portraits
  21. Managed to find an infamous 2006 Foursquare bottled by Velier. Set me back a few bob but looking to hold it super long term so not too bothered. The plan its to literally pick up 1 (maybe 2) of the vintage bottles a year and build over time. The vintage is one of the more plentiful in the series (about 27,000 bottles per year) but as time goes on and more bottles are drunk they should appreciate in price nicely
