Also denticles on the obverse is the wrong type I believe
-
Another somewhat suspect coin arrived again today.
One thing jumped out at me - the space around the date.
Also noticed the flatness in all the details on the reverse, which doesn't look like typical wear. Streaky appearance running vertically through the obverse. And as I looked more issues arose: low reading on Sigma (higher silver content?), and very slightly smaller diameter and rounded edge. Interestingly the Kee registered it in the Platinum section. Very odd. XRF would be great here as the smaller diameter and correct weight suggests a slightly higher density (although this could be due to a thicker overall coin but with less raised rim.

Today I am auctioning off this unusual and rare fantasy piece.
The stunning and much celebrated obverse design by William Wyon of the Gothic florin/crown graces the obverse, while the Hong Kong trade dollar design featuring Britannia surrounded by an ornate border by Georges William de Saules makes the reverse.
A coin that never was, but if it had existed would surely be much sought after today!
I have had this XRF tested as 9ct gold. This sale is the ONLY honest sale of this coin I have found, where the correct gold content has been established and stated.
Weighs 5.98g
Gold content: 2.24g
I am only aware of a total of 5 of these coins sold or on sale in the past 12 years.
Including this one, currently for sale at £370 https://ukcoinage.com/product/1847-victoria-gothic-head-trade-dollar-modern-restrike/
This one, sold for £200 plus 15% fee in 2012 (when the gold value was £81!): https://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&auc=137&searchlot=1171&searchtype=2
And this one - the very same coin purchased by me last June: https://www.easyliveauction.com/catalogue/lot/d9a2e472500303775b3b0c8d3a787605/0af8d24542e81eb9357e7ef448a6646f/books-medals-militaria-stamps-coins-collectables-lot-358/
I might be mad doing this, but having very little sale history to help me price this, I want to find an appreciative buyer and want TSF to have fun with this one. So I will start this at the price floor for this coin, established in March 2022 in the sleepy and picturesque village of Kirkbymoorside on the edge of the North York Moors, where this coin passed by the auctioneers and the coin world alike, and where some very lucky bidder managed to snag the bargain of the year for £10 plus the auctioneers £2.52 buyer's premium. Its gold content was not even suspected! https://www.easyliveauction.com/catalogue/lot/98c9e909f68c378191e13dff8aaed559/0af8d24542e81eb9357e7ef448a6646f/home-interiors-collectables-lot-325/
Start price: £12.52.
Bid in minimum increments of £1
Ends Sunday 19th May at 9.00pm with 2 minute soft close (each bid extends the auction by 2 minutes).
Special Delivery at £7 to be added to final price.
Have fun!

Would you consider a trade?
1.25kg for a sovereign?
That works out at £443.75 (35.5p p/g)
I am paying £439 per sovereign at the moment and would have to factor in postage, but as such I am open to trades at the right rate.

I see a Korea 1oz date run starting as of now. I love the Korean bullion coins - incredible designs and effects. Low mintages so I think these are good to hold.
As for 11% premium 999 handmade silver. Can't go wrong, surely
