Hello from Ireland

Hi all, I just registered here.

Bought 25x silver Krugerrands today to at least have some silver, but will add only gold for the next few years. Its just nice to have a jingling tube sitting around full of nice shiny silver coins. VAT is the crime with no end and really prevents significant silver stacking against agreeable pricing on the continent, hence the future focus on gold. 

Together with a 10g gold PAMP fortuna bar for a lucky charm, the Krugers will form the start of slow, but steady, stacking. 

Sovereigns seem to require some numismatic knowledge, so I'll probably stick to acquiring 1oz gold Britannia's. Will keep em for life probably, don't intend to sell.

Welcome to the forum. I see you've decided to dispense of that silver itch early on. Give it a good scratch with a tube of silver Krug's, then gold from here on in. That's the way. 🤣

Just a heads up, regular bullion sovereigns don't really require any numismatic knowledge.

The proofs, rare years, different mints, and different portrait type sovereigns on the other hand definitely do require some knowledge. Chatting with forum regulars and reading info posts on here will definitely help to start filling in the gaps 😄

if you can afford one ounce Britannias, well done, however, great to have a selection of sovereigns and fractional for if your circumstances change and you have to sell something quick as these are always easier to liquidate. Whichever way you go, good luck… right place for some great deals🤔👍

I'll definitely read up on the nuances of bullion sovereigns, as they're more accessible. I'll leave the ones with faces, years, proofs etc for the time being. Thanks for the tip!

I figured that the fractionals might carry relatively high premiums and I wasn't aware that the 1oz might be more difficult to liquidate in a pinch. Something to consider indeed.  

I'll have a look into sovereigns and pro's and cons versus the 1oz gold coins.
