The Royal Mint's Coin Auction Is Live

Recommended Posts

I got an email!😮 at current prices before any real bidding there appears to be coins on there that even ordinary punters can afford! Other than coming out of their own vault, wonder who’s got fed up of their 1kg gold?🤔😮

That was a good price for the Kew Gardens.

Many coins did not sale

I saw a good bit didn't sell to - now Ive had time to have a look through the results

Its certainly a lukewarm warm.  If a proof coin is not a PF70 it appears no one sees them worth much more than melt these days

I bid on some , but fell short.  Several of the proof coins, including that 2017 3 coin set seemed to have some problems, like fingerprints?  Hopefully for all who purchased it was a case of poor photography.

Anything not a PF70….. get it out of its slab and back in a box!

@Petra Unfortunately but absolutely spot on. Stick it back in the box and sell it to people like me.  The difference between a 69 and a 70 is entirely with a subjective grader who maybe had a bad day.

The 1960 Gillick Crown graded PL66 that’s a new one to me what does that stand for?

I’m used to all the other grading terms but have never seen a PL.

Proof like

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

Is that a term for a general coin that would normally grade MS but looks really nice so gets a PL James?

Basically yes.

Then you can get DPL which is deep proof like ( the 2017 struck on the day's got this designation

Thanks James very interesting.

I’ve got a Sov and on the shield side the fields are a ringer for a proof but on the obverse side the fields are totally different it’s a weird coin.

The 2016 set & 2017 set mentioned needs conservation & my friend will do that for me at no charge so thats ok :D
