Just read the topic. I'm relatively new to TSF, but Monsmoy sounds as if he was a true gent and embodied what I have found to be true of most on TSF.

My condolences to friends and family. I'm reminded of what I was told when my mother passed away "Nobody is really gone, so long as we remember them with out heads and hearts" I'm sure a gentleman that has evoked so many responses on here will never be gone.

I don’t believe I had the pleasure of interacting with Monsmoy. He seemed like a genuine person willing to share his knowledge and advice.

So, update.

Monsmoy had agreed a sale on a 1/10 gold proof coin I had bought on an auction here. It was a bit of a fruity old affair on the silver forum but I won it. That particular thread caused some fuss and so there were a whole host of reasons for me to be keen to move on the coin.

I didn’t think it would end up like this.

In short, the coin was not perfect annd had some handling marks that I had not taken care to notice before buying, and given those issues, I decided to sell it on eBay. I was totally honest about condition on eBay but people were still bidding!!

It was doing well there and Monsmoy contact me via there to ask about it. I confirmed it was available to him for £165.00 even though there were a few days left and even though it was at £170.00. That clearly made sense for both of us. He agreed and we spoke about it and confirmed we would meet up to finalise some other deals (he was canny and I still hold coins for him - now his wife). I said for him to just give me the cash when we meet. It is his coin. Even though money never passed hands, I really do not want this and instead want to do something good with it. 

I messaged him to confirm the meeting to pass the coins. We used to meet at Prufrock on Leather Lane (near Hatton Garden) for coffee. Incidentally, if anyone is ever in the area let me know. It’s a lovely meeting place and the coffee is great.

He didn’t reply for a few days, then I got a message from him, except it wasn’t him. It was his wife. She told me the news……

Long story short. I have decided to sell this 1/10 proof coin here and will set up an auction. After all it is his coin. We agreed and it breaks my heart he will never be able to add it to his collection.

All proceeds will go to one of the charities his wife has nominated for funeral donations etc. 

More to follow. Just setting this up as a nice heads up. Also just sharing some emotions as his death has effected more than I would ever have expected.
