Personally, I think it's a casting 'flaw'. I don't even like to use the word 'flaw' because it has negative connotations, a 'vestige from casting' perhaps?

I don't think it's a testing mark, as I mentioned before Baird do not need to test the finished product for purity, maybe weight and those under/over tolerance will be re-cast.

Whatever, don't sell yourself short, it's a lovely 50g cast bar.

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

I do also agree with Roy here, for much the same reasons.

Rather than flaw perhaps we can term it ‘personality’!

Beauty spot?

It is unusual, and I know the market doesn't exactly love unusual, but it should sell. If I wasn't waiting for a dip I'd have that.

I agree, more evocative and less standardised - I have always liked cast bars for this reason. I was somewhat tempted by this one myself!

It looks like a casting flaw, I think @Roy is right. Good news for you!! 😊

I can’t see Bairds being this destructive whilst testing their own products. If so, JNT needs anger management courses. 😆

😅😅😅 as I sit here laughing , I'm actually beginning to appreciate it ( sure to be a long process lol)

Might change the title to... 50 gram gold bar " piece unique " and add a 0 to the price.

Or ... gold bar tested by a narcissist.

Either way what a conversation piece I have 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♀️🥳

This reminds me of something I read the other day:

To obtain the highest price for the wine, they came up with the novel idea of selling their wine in Bordeaux to the highest bidders at auction. If the wine did not sell, they created the interesting concept of increasing the price again and again until it was finally sold!

Ironically there's some truth to that.

I've had silver cast bars with a similar mark. If I had received your bar, I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Yeah seems to be the general consensus now👍

Withdrawing now anyroad around 10pm if no takers.

I've been having a discussion with another forum member about how purchases for larger gold pieces are slow to not happening, even with very low premiums above melt. Now I'm starting to see it with smaller gold. Makes me wonder if buyers are simply tapped out of purchasing power and can't afford the great opportunities that arrive in the for sale section. It's cool that you're giving us all the opportunity to buy this before cashing in elsewhere. I hope somebody can take advantage of sale.

I can only speak for myself, but having most coin designs I liked and wanted now safely locked away,  when a purchase like this and bigger gold items come into play, CGT becomes a much more serious consideration.

On that basis, IMO it is much more financially prudent to pay an small % extra premium to buy CGT free coins and not face a big CGT liability on disposal.

Clearly I cannot speak for others buying, or otherwise, rationale.

Appreciate your point of view and agree to a point.

But this is a 50g bar not a kilo and if I ever see the day I'm in enough profit to have to worry about cgt....then that a day I will relish rather than dread 🤣🤣
