Strange habits?

Recommended Posts

Since I really like to stack silver and gold I need to remind myself not to spend too much money on drinks, food or waste money in general.

For that reason I carry a 1 Oz Silver Maple Leaf in my pocket.

Besides  it is great to have a coin rolling through my fingers, it really helps when I am passing by a McDonalds or KFC or a pub for instance not to go in. I just grab in my pocket and think "Hmm don't waste your money on this, buy a coin instead"

Meanwhile the coin in my pocket is full of scratches but that's no problem, at the end of the story my stack is growing instead of my belly so a win-win I guess.

Anyone else who's got some weird habits?

The rare time I play poker these days in land based casinos, I will use a (2009) 2oz kookaburra in plastic capsule as my card protector.  Never fails to get a conversation going

Wheres it from ? what is it ? that's a large coin? that's heavy? whats that worth ? whats a kookaburra? can you spend that? that's really silver?

I am also strangely superstitious it as a good luck charm, I had bought it locally on a Saturday afternoon and still had it on me in my pocket for the evening tournament, that i went on to win

so keep it with me now when i play

it stops the dealer mucking your cards in error, shows you are still active in the hand

Ah, that makes sense now. I had visions of other players trying to sneak off with your cards when you weren't looking😀

I was in Lidl the other day and noticed this old chap (80's ish) in front of me in the queue with his wife, had a silver coin glinting through the pouch mesh when he got his wallet out to pay for his shopping. I don't know what variation it was but we had a little discreet chat under hushed breath about silver. Turns out this old fella never leaves home without a bit of "fine stuff" in his pocket and has done so since his first job as an apprentice. When I asked him why he has silver he responded with "Bitter experience". Not too sure what he meant by that though.

I myself carry one of those Perth Mint square coin jobbies as it fits in my wallet nice and snuggly.

I love this thread. I carry a 5oz gold panda with me everywhere I go. I sometimes flip it to decide on things to do.

Not really. Just joking. I have never even held a 1oz gold coin.............

I carry a lucky sixpence. It keeps me in enough 'check' when needed.

I carry a silver dollar all the time for luck and as a carpet salesman when I get asked to do a deal I sometimes give them a deal on the toss of the coin. funny when a customer says will you do that £99 rug for £80 and I say we will toss a coin for it but if I win you give me 110 but if I lose you can have it for £75 some just pay the 99 but some like a gamble

I have pretty much the same habit as you do. Each time I buy something I convert it to the silver value, but I try not to be so strict with my spending and sometimes indulge myself with a nice evening in a cafe.

Of course I have weird habits. I'm strange, odd, and neurotic. It comes with the territory.

At the moment I'm having trouble picking out just one aspect of my life that's weird, but concerning coins, any time I get any change I immediately look for silver, then for copper. That means I have to either look over my glasses or take them off because I need my glasses to see far, but see excellently close up without them.

I look at the sides of coins to check for silver,  then the dates of pennies to check for copper. (pre-1982 pennies are copper) and I keep a penny tube in my car for any coppers I find. When it's full I put it in my copper stash, and put another empty tube in its place.
