Hi this might have been answered before but im not sure. How can you work out the right price that you will pay for coins? I think the converter they have to pounds is higher than what you pay. Not sure if someone could point me to the answer. Thanks

Ignore the pounds conversion on their website. Take the price in Euros and put it into Transferwise

Why is the European Mint so expensive nowadays as compared to other dealers? It's about a full pound more per coin on many one ounce silver coins it seems... on others, a lot more! I wanted to take part in the group orders this time, but I realise it can probably be sourced cheaper elsewhere. Some months ago, this was not the case. It's too bad... 😕

Trade deals and VAT on silver are unrelated. However fantastic the trade deal, HMRC will still apply VAT.

Are you looking at their prices in Euros or Pounds? Always ignore their £ prices and just look at the Euro price and then plug that into TransferWise.

A quick glance has shown me that the EU mint is cheaper on pretty much every standard bullion coin than GS.be when priced in euros

What dealers are you looking at that are cheaper if so?

I have found buying from forum members directly makes it even cheaper than the European Mint and I get it far sooner.

Yes indeed - but those deals don't come by as often or easily as a dealers in stock items.

The forum has a great trade section for sure - so good that you often have to compete for the best deals 😉

One really good thing about the European Mint is you can pay with Bitcoin.
Depending what coins you are looking for, shopping around may give you better prices but may not.  Prices always vary on sites like the European mint but not on others, so one day European mint may be the best and a few days later it may be another site.
This forum is definately great, I have purchase quite a few coins from here.
I have also been buying a bit at a time, adding to my European mint group order. (Looking forward to when it arrives)

Know what... you are absolutely right. When I now switched to euros, I see that on most products the European Mint is cheaper. My apologies... Plus, they have a very wide range that others don't have.

There are some notable exceptions, but not among the most popular coins currently. For example the 2019 Silver Spade Guinea costs 29.89 euros at the European Mint, but it can be bought at Chards for only £21.20, including VAT! The latter is a good deal from Chards, it seems:

https://www.europeanmint.com/2019-1oz-silver-st-helena-spade-guinea-shield-coin/

Black Bull of Clarence, at £47.33 at Chards, but it is 63.38 euros at the Euro Mint:

Nobody can be cheapest for every single item, but for the majority the EU mint will see you right.

How the new group orders will work?

This is a general summary of how a group order will work:

1) You place an order with the European Mint directly.

2) During the checkout process you will need to apply the following code "BYBGROUPORDER" This code gives you a massive €0.01 discount on your order - but more importantly allows the EU mint to identify group order orders.

3) Select the "Add orders to storage" option on the shipping section.

632382876_ShippingSelection.jpg.92380cbae70f40054f72e6e9d25b05ca.jpg

4) Message me here on the forum (or via email to info@backyardbullion.com) with your order summary (ideally a copy of your invoice).

5) We (Backyard Bullion) then will offer a free service of arranging delivery of your items. We will instruct the courier to pick up your order(s), deliver them to us and we will then distribute like we have with previous group orders.

6) This service is FREE. This means that I do not have to charge you VAT on the shipping costs. However we will, of course, still have to bill you for shipping. The courier costs from the EU Mint to us will be the same rate as before (1.2% of the order value) and will be passed on to you as a disbursement cost. The UK postage will be the same as previous group orders and I will cover those in more detail later in this thread.

So that is basically how these group orders will run!

Is this how the group orders are NOW working?

Have just stumbled into an interest in PMs this summer as I've usually just been trading Euro/GBP the last few months. I'm thinking now we could be heading for a debt crisis so I'm getting some exposure to PMs. I also have always liked the idea of just owning the physical asset - it means I can just hold it long term without worrying about daily fluctuations.

Thanks a lot for setting this up, this is only the start of my stacking. All I have right now is a 1987 silver eagle that I bought from my cousin for €2 about 12 years ago. Even then, that was a good buy!

Hi BYB,

Is the European Mint stock of the White Lion of Mortimer in too late for the group orders? It says mid October on the website.

We are awaiting confirmation of this, I would suggest not ordering them until we know what is a) happening with brexit and b) when they will be ready for shipping.
