Just thought this thread might be of some interest.

ย

How about sharing the "cheapest gold" purchased in the current calendar year i.e. 2014.

Maybe start a new thread in 2015 and carry on ?

ย

In order to keep the numbers meaningful you need to know your total net landed cost i.e. including shipping cost.

Also you need to know the fine gold ( 24ct ) weight not just the total weight.

All one ounce gold coins contain a full Troy ounce of fine gold.

Full sovereigns contain 7.32g fine gold and half sovereigns 3.66g

ย

My best prices in 2014 are as follows -

ย

(a) Toz Kangaroo ยฃ777.31 / ยฃ24.99 per gram

(B) Full sovereign ยฃ186.55 / ยฃ25.48 per gram

ยฉ Half sovereign ยฃ92.53 / ยฃ25.28 per gram

ย

No cheating - you need to allow for shipping, bank fees etc. etc.

ยฃ785.97 for 1oz 2014 Britannia from the gold bullion co, this was may 30th when prices dipped, ยฃ25.27 pg

ย

ยฃ85.25 for a 1/10 1994 Britannia from HGM ยฃ27.5pg

ย

I just worked out how much I've paid for my 96.1g of gold per gram, ยฃ26.14.ย

ย

Also got a half sov for ยฃ90 from a flea market on the 10/08/14ย

ย

This equates to ยฃ24.59 per gram

ย

ย

Do I get my prize now. :)

My cheapest was 3 x 1oz gold ingots @ ยฃ733.00ea earlier in the year when gold dipped. ยฃ23.57/g.

ย

Buggerit he beat me.

ย

I propose this thread should only be for UK stackers, can't have the Aussie contingent rubbing it in............ :rolleyes:ย  :D

You can still win. Get down to the beach.

You think I'm driving 460 odd miles tonight there and back, you are greatly mistaken. The money not spent on petrol would buy me one of those barsย  :D

Did you spend ยฃ180 in batteries? You have to count all expenses.

Lol. Ok I'll give you that. It was in Penzance so petrol was probably ยฃ100 too.

Maybe it's the most expensive sovereign ever!!!

Stacker since 2013

I bought this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Edward-VII-Commemorative-Coin-/271554779959

It's not a fake and it's not a half. It was a bit of a gamble though!

If that is a genuine full sovereign then your price per gram is unbeatable.

Hope the seller doesn't find this forum and realise he just gave away over ยฃ180 !!

How did you test this coin ?

Exact weight, diameter and centre thickness - are these 3 numbers in spec for a sovereign ???

Underweight and 10% too thick would ring alarm bells.

Hope it's gold and well done for finding this - if genuine.

ย

Looking at it's size relative to the pattern on the kitchen roll, it looks about the size of a 5p

ย

How big are half sovs?ย

It's 7.99g weighed on smartweigh acc200. This is 0.01g heavier than the other sovereign I have.

I measure the size using a Moore and Wright micrometer.

It's 22.02mm x 1.53mm at rim and 1.42mm at the centre.

That's a sovereign alright.

ย

Can I be the first to say you lucky jammy barsteward........... :D

ย

Well we might as well close this thread down now. ..................No one is going to beat that ย

ย

I'm off to scan EVERY coin on ebay now.........

Bargain. ย I'm not surprised the coin was overlooked. ย Such a bad listing. ย No mention of gold or sovereign. ย Listed as a commemorative coin with a blurry photo.

Well the benchmark has now been set. ย Not sure how it is possible to bet that price (legally or ethically) but who knows.ย  ;)
