I thought they would have got rid of the chipwood wallpaper on the obverse and went with the chainmail look they gave the 2oz Queens Beast Unicorn.

I thought the same. Strange....

I remember the days of papering walls with chip wood to cover the cracks. Our Mint is probably doing the same but covering the scuffs that would stand out if aย polished blank.

I have just stripped an entire house of the woodchip stuff, its an utter b*stad to get off. A bit like RM milk spots. I will probably get some of these and just refuse toย look at the queens head side, pretend it doesn't exist, justย like I do with the queens portrait on Canadian mintย coins. Both the woodchip background and the RMC choice of portraitย are an insult to her majesty's graceย :P

I am still of the opinion Britannia coins should be made from Britannia silver, not 999, all my older coins are good quality!ย

Soย which design actually got minted? Could these variations be promo art before they went to press with one?

Just you wait, I bet woodchip becomes super-fashionable again in the next year or two and folk will be putting it up in their houses at great expense post-haste :P Well at least that's my hope, along with avocado baths coming back into vogue, and new research saying lead piping is actually really healthy for your drinking water, will save me one hell of a renovation job

Bib - I think the opposite - queen Lizardbreath's effigy is an absolutely affront to woodchip, silver, and portraits in general!

Lol I hope not, I hate the woodchip stuff. I have smashed the old iron avocado bath to pieces with a sledgehammerย too it was one of the most satisfying things I have done. Rang like a dam bell.ย :P
