Doesn't matter, these short term swings. Longer term the price trend is still up. And will be with the accelerated devaluation of FIAT

Amazing stuff but will be down to the local Offie to grab a bottle in preparation for the down swing now I've added a bit more. Hoping it'll be a celebration though as we hit £2,000 end of the month.

The lack of coverage of the ATHs in gold in the mainstream media has been mentioned in this Forum.  Well, at least gold was on the front page of today's FT:

Are you encouraging me to say boring stuff?
There are lots of different spot prices. Each of the major exchanges - London, New York, Tokyo, Moscow, Shanghai - operate independently. London is the big market for institutional players like banks and bullion companies whereas NYC is more about hedge funds and speculators. So that leads to slightly different prices. The daily fixes in London, NY and Shanghai are roughly speaking an average of the different prices quoted by the participants in those markets (LBMA, COMEX, Shanghai). There are lots of other factors like transport and storage costs between different jurisdictions, FOREX, how often the prices are updated, regulatory requirements, liquidity, etc.
The bullion dealers like BBP and Royal Mint can choose whichever price they want, so every bullion dealer tends to have a different price based on this choice, their logistics, FOREX and how often they update. The Royal Mint obviously chooses the highest one in Shanghai
As we speak The Royal Mint has gold at £1819.41 while BBP quotes £1818.36

Ah, behold! this resplendent emblem of opulence that you have presented before us
Aa veritable monument to the inexorable fusion of extravagance & success.  In its form, we perceive the embodiment of fiscal aspiration, a gilded testament to the eternal pursuit of pecuniary supremacy.
Like Midas' touch unchained from restraint, it gleams with a luminosity that challenges the very sun itself to a contest of radiance.
Each facet, a gleaming syllable in the epic saga of fiscal folly, tells a tale of riches amassed and fortunes won, perhaps even lost amidst the tempests of indulgence.
Truly, it is a relic of our times—a paradoxical marriage of wealth and whimsy, a sartorial symphony that crescendos in the exclamation point of a £pound sign, a punctuation mark to signal to the world: "Behold, for I have arrived... and I brought bling!"
In its presence, one cannot help but ponder the mysteries of existence, for what enigma could be more confounding than the confluence of taste and ostentation, the intersection of elegance and excess? It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery, shrouded in a shimmering cloak of gold.
So let us raise our monocles to this object d'art, this pièce de résistance of the nouveau riche, and marvel at its brazen magnificence.

Anyone worked out what's driving up the recent rise in gold and stocks?
I thought the gold price moved conversely to the western stock markets but they've all moved up similar percentages (excluding the FT all share).

    https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2024/04/02/bitcoin-drops-over-5-as-upbeat-us-factory-data-powers-dollar-index-to-nearly-5-month-high/
DXY is up a little (0.71% in the last 5 days to 104.9) but is still way off the peak from October 2022 (113.3)
(generally speaking gold is the inverse of DXY so if DXY goes up then gold should go down and vice-versa)

Gold marginally moved against the DXY but the news from Syria/Iran/Israel was a counterbalance. DXY is expected to trend down this year and next (rate cuts, de-dollarization, etc)
A few stocks are up along with DXY due to US factory data beating expectations (doesn't mean it's good or bad just that it's better than analysts expected). Overall the S&P, NASDAQ and DJI are down (0.2-0.4%)
There haven't been any big sudden moves in gold - it's only up around 0.5% (USD) since last night. There's an inexorable trend which will push gold to $2300/oz sooner rather than later. There might be a dip in the summer but once the CBs start cutting rates, gold will smash $2300, then the next target is $2800+
    https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2024/04/02/bitcoin-drops-over-5-as-upbeat-us-factory-data-powers-dollar-index-to-nearly-5-month-high/
Just to post that twice in case anybody missed BTC hitting the $70K cap and dropping 5% while gold and silver went up 😁
Gold = risk-OFF while BTC = risk-ON. You can make up your own mind what markets are saying when the risky asset goes down and the safe asset goes up
Gold hasn't played its hand yet, no need to get carried away by small short-term moves, it's just noise. The markets couldn't care less about the £1800/€2100 thresholds or the price of a bullion shield sov, wait until resistance turns to support above $2300

I couldn't agree more that voting makes no difference, because they're all singing from the same song sheet on a global scale, as was so blatantly demonstrated during the covid farce, and no matter who you vote for, you will always get more of the same.
However, a spoilt ballot paper is supposedly still counted.    You could speculate that they count the spoilt papers to keep tabs on the level of discontent from the plebs, and to forewarn if the numbers get too great and become a possible threat.
This time I intend to spoil my paper and make it crystal clear that I do not consent to any of it, and will not under any circumstances choose parasite A, B, C, or D to lord it over me while he/she/it runs off with all the tax revenue in his/her/its pocket, while bending all the rules or making up new ones to benefit themselves, illegal immigrants, the police, and other criminals .
I don't expect spoiling my paper to make any difference other than to put me on a government list of possible subversives on a home office computer somewhere.
There is another likely scenario, and that is that the entire thing is rigged to provide the desired outcome every time regardless. We know it's rigged to the benefit of the main two by the FPTP system, but even with that safeguard in place,  I suspect there are further manipulations that go on to ensure pole position is always passed only between Labour and Conservative - consider the South Thanet scenario in 2015 for example.  Missing ballot boxes my left bollock...  !
This is way off topic. Gold is about to punch through the £1800 mark. .....    And no one seems to know what's driving it....🤔
