I started buying silver and gold as a way to spend without spending. Simple as that 😄

I purchased an old George V Sovereign a week or so (from the forum) and all I can say is wow!! It seems to overshadow my modern Sovereigns in some way perhaps being an “old” coin it has presence perhaps? But I think that I like old coins. Following a link on another thread there was a site selling gold coins from the time of Alexander the Great  and to use the vernacular, I was gobsmacked. A bit expensive though, the Sovereign was expensive enough but I thought that you chaps on the forum seem to recommend to keep buying for cost averaging or something so as you have been doing this for a lot longer than I “took a punt” to yet again use the vernacular.
    Keep safe

to me gold is a universal money. if i take say mexico peso's to india no one would take them for trade but if i travel to any country with gold i can get the local currency and be fine. i know some of you will bring up bitcoin but bitcoin is dependent on the internet and in my mind not as good as gold in hand.  jim

It was in Mike Maloney’s old book:

He is giving it away free! A good read no matter what you think of him (as he sells gold and silver himself).

A company in Estonia. I would never buy silver from the UK, why pay silver + margin + vat? Buying from the EU has saved me in the region of £1200 in vat. To me, and not wishing to engage in a polemical rant here, but the imposition of vat on silver is just a way of denying the less well off a way of accumulating real wealth, and I’ll be buggered if I will play thier game. So it’s a loss to the exchequer and more silver for me.

Wait until Friday to purchase. If the Conservatives are returned with a decent majority the pound is likely to head to close to $1.39 making silver even cheaper it is already at $1.32 just on firming opinion poll results.

I have tended to use silvercoins.ee. I have never had any problems even though they are in Estonia, other than when they ran out of Britannias and communication was a little erratic, but they delivered. It’s the VAT free silver, ie 0% that attracts.
I would advise using something like a Revolut account and paying in Euros. Then you are not clobbered with exchange charges as you convert between currencies at the inter bank rate and Revolut do not charge for the privilege.

    A quarter of a tonne!!
An expletive of astonishment would seem appropriate, but I don’t think it would pass the mods. Makes my small pile rather insignificant.
