the main thing apart from condition is rarity ie year mintage and survival numbers. Other than that there are the years that have the oddities. Dodgy strilkes as you put it don't come into it. The "errors" are not in the strike but the making of the die, it has to be an engraver's error.

The latest 5g Panda Notes from the Nanjing Mint. This time there are 3 variations. Normal, coloured and relief. It's hard to see in pics but in hand, you can clearly see that the pandas are not flat in the relief version. The same goes for the temple on all the notes. It's still early days but in a few years I can see these being very impressive.

silverin reacted to HighlandTiger in Gold Monitoring Thread £ GBP only
I do laugh when people think the world is heading to a single world currency. It's never going to happen.
We can't even make a success of 20 odd countries using a single currency and yet you think a currency for 200 nations is possible.
Dream on.

silverin reacted to Bumble in Gold Monitoring Thread £ GBP only
Gold is still good in the longer term, but in the short term, I'm not so sure. For one thing, markets always overreact to bad news. Friday morning, gold lurched up to £1000 per ozT and then settled back; GBP/USD fell to 1.30 then recovered to 1.37; FTSE dropped 10% then recovered to down 3%. Over the next 3-4 months, the big event is the US election. The establishment are desperate to get Hillary elected and shut Trump out. Since the current president is a democrat, this means they will talk up the economy and publish lots of strong results: high GDP growth, low unemployment, high job creation, etc. Most of the results will be bull**** but people will believe them and it will make them want to vote for more of the same. This will be negative for gold. You may well be able to buy gold more cheaply in 3 months time than today. No guarantees of anything, just watch the price closely and maybe use cost averaging to get yourself in.
