  1. Hey everyone, I need your opinion on this 1937 Sovereign. The seller is a friend of a friend, and says as far as he know, these hairlines are from the original case it was in and this is hot he got the coin. He is a reputable guy and I’m sure he is stating what he knows or thinks without trying to be deceitful. My question for you all is… are these parallel lines in the fields common for older Sovereigns that were stored in velvet cases, or is this a sign of cleaning? What grade might this sort of coin normally get?
  2. It is a gorgeous rendition though. I’d love if the RM would redo it.
  3. We know the reverse of the 2022 Sovereign will be the Royal Coat of Arms design. It would be a terrific surprise if the obverse is a special portrait too, like this.
  4. Goodness!!! How do people even have the time and patience to spot these things? I mean, a tiny missing grain from a sequence of numerous tiny grains series of 100s of coins. 😅
  5. Thanks @LawrenceChard . That was informative. Maybe someday I’ll be able to afford one. 😎
  6. What would you say is a fair price for this set (ungraded) now?
  7. Only if I can convince the officer who catches me that having this book is essential. 😬
  8. I will poke around here in Sydney and see if I can find any info or the book itself.
  9. You and me both. I find the Yale rather alluring. 😏
  10. My apologies to you then. I was taking things a bit too seriously. 😅 OMG really!? How ironic is that! 👀
  11. Wait what? Never mind differential weighting, a simple average (equal weighting) would result in a 1 star. (5 x 1) / 5 = 1 It’s weird what Feefo did for sure.
  12. Perth Mint’s high relief coins are actually fabulous to look at. I’ve seen them in some coin shops and the detail and relief is stunning. However much of their range, like those coloured proofs, are simply garbage and offer no value for money, IMO.
  13. @ady - I double checked online and I was mistaken. The coins I mentioned used those different portraits of HM on their respective obverses. Their reverses do not feature HM’s portraits at all. So you may be right that the QB Completer may be one of the few, or only, coins that features HM’s portrait on the obverse and reverse.
  14. The recently released 2021 “50 years of the 50p” also has a similar design - a special one uses HM’s First Portrait by Mary Gillick while the other one uses the current Fifth Portrait.
  15. So @NewCoins was right when he said 10% success rate. 😀
  16. It’s the Alice in Wonderland range. They are on a roll. 😝
  17. When I checked Downies on release day, they had 16 of the 1/4 Oz and 4 of the 2 Oz silver Proof sets. They didn’t seem to have any of the 1/4 Oz gold Proof sets. All seem to have been sold out now.
  18. I was discussed in the really big thread but looks like it has mostly slipped under the radar. I believe at least one person here got the set and posted pictures.
  19. The set was released last Monday along with the 2 Oz Silver Proof set and the 1/4 Oz reverse frosted Gold Proof set.
  20. I don’t know what your budget is, but another option is to get a nice little monogrammed pouch for him if the coin itself doesn’t come in an original box. And slip in a handwritten note in place of a COA. 😊
  21. “New markets” - Hopefully they will start doing grading in Australia haha. Sending coins halfway around the world is a huge deterrent to me.
  22. No wait hold on… I don’t know about bullion, but I found a new gazette proclamation about 2022 Year of the Tiger proof coins. https://m.thegazette.co.uk/notice/3828646 Here’s the description for one of the coins: For the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription “· ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 8000 POUNDS”, and for the reverse a depiction of a Tiger with the inscription “YEAR OF THE TIGER · 2022” and the Chinese lunar symbol for a Tiger. The coin shall have a plain edge.
  23. Thank you @SilverMike. That looks gorgeous without a doubt.
  24. Did anyone here get the 1/4 Oz gold set? I’m curious to see what the reverse frosted look looks like.
  25. That coin had a different intent, as can be seen from the dedication. I do agree most coins look better with more design and less wording though.
