  1. And just for once, gold could be the worst thing of all! 😎
  2. Probably. That's a great source! 😎
  3. Not bad for a phone, but... The 1891 sov looks rather dodgy. It probably is OK, but a good argument for using a DSLR, macro lens, greater working distance, etc. 🙂
  4. They look good. How close are the colours compared with the actual coins? 😎
  5. I understand the problem, partly because I was having to invent and adapt in exactly the same way over 20 years ago, and that was with DSLRs. Even macro ringflashes llike the two Canon ones are not perfect. Because coins are highly reflective, you also need to control or modify the lighting and reflections. Our first full time photographer, let's call him "Y", wanted us to buy water in aerosol sprays for about £10 a time. I showed him that heavy breathing produced a similar, probably superior, effect for no cost. As you use an iphone, cost will be of no importance to you of course! There are probably ready made systems for microscopes, but they may cost even more than your phone. @SemolinaPilchard will probably be interested to see what you come up with, although I doubt it will persuade him to switch from axial lighting. 😎 When I wrote the above, I could not recall the word I needed. It came to me about an hour later - "improvise"!
  6. Now you are starting to learn about "working distance"! 😎
  7. I didn't quite believe you had just received one: 😎
  8. It is not clear from your post whether you are thinking about vintage gold and silver bullion in general, or only about bars, to the exclusion of bullion coins. I guess you only mean bars, but it would be better to specify this, or include coins, which in any case are a superior form of bullion. I can recommend a vintage bullion dealer. 😎
  9. 1869 Victoria Shield Gold Sovereign - Bigger Better Macro Photos Here are examples of the above coin photographed using our new Canon R5 DSLR, and Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro IS USM lens. Reverse - die Number 41 Obverse - above: Reverse with overlay showing greater detail. This new lens captures macro at 1.4:1 instead of the more usual 1:1, but makes the pixel count and file sizes about twice the size. 😎
  10. Actually yes, it has probably happened. Contemporary counterfeit George III halfpennies, pre 1799, are quite collectable, and often sell for more than genuine ones! 😎
  11. Gold Britannias? Never even existed until 1997! Now, gold sovereigns, famous since 1489! There are fake sovereigns of course, just like there are fakes of almost everything. It's worth knowing who you are buying from. 😎
  12. It is probably this one: https://taxfreegold.co.uk/coinsorbars.html Written about 20 year ago, but still relevant. 😎
  13. But better still, choose gold not silver: https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/advice-guide-for-uk-bullion-investors/1041 and choose a dealer who gives you good advice, not just a sales pitch. 😎
  14. I forgot to mention that this heritage site used to have almost every sovereign listed in an easy to find way: https://goldsovereigns.co.uk/datesexist.html 😎
  15. For most popular bullion products, they are usually the lowest. 16. We are working towards our website being 100% pure gold, but currently it is 99.9%, which works equally well for gold or silver. 😎
  17. Who says I'm prefect perfect? I also have rogue fingers which usually spell George as Geroge! 😎
  18. Sure, I paid £35K for our house, over 40 years ago. It is probably worth about £1 million, so it has been a good inflation hedge, despite maintenance costs, and some upgrades. In or around London it would probably have cost at least £1 million 40+ years ago. Our office / showroom stands us at about £1 million, and would cost £10 million to £20 million or more in London. 😎
  19. I thpught they were all single use, like supermarket plastic bags. 😎
