  1. Just assume fine silver = 1 or 100% or 1.000 Silver is not often .9999 (four nines fine), it is much more commonly .999 (three nines), but forget all of these. So for .925 silver, calculate as .925 or 92.5% For .500 silver, calculate as .500 or 50.0% Do similar for any other finenesses. You could also do it for .999, but this approach is not 99.9% reliable. Does this help? 😎
  2. rouge1 /ruːʒ/ 1. noun a red powder or cream used as a cosmetic for colouring the cheeks or lips. "she wore patches of rouge on her cheeks" 2. short for jeweller's rouge. verb colour with rouge. "the make-up artist rouged my cheeks" adjective (of wine) red. Or as in "Moulin Rouge"? 😎
  3. Before I was old enough for a driving license, I used to cycle around the Fylde Coast to banks, to buy up their stocks of silver threepences. 😎
  4. I often look around, and realise how poor I am. There are a number of reasons I now have some capital: I worked hard, and often long hours. I used intelligence, and applied much thought. I retained most rather than spending it. When I do spend, I like to get good value. I still work, 10 or 15 years after many people have retired. I have always invested in gold, silver, coins, and other "stock". I could have been much richer 40 or 50 years ago: If I cheated people. If I advertised or described stuff misleadingly. If I had used any hard selling. If I had not taken on a partner (very long story). I certainly am not rich enough to manipulate the silver market. I can't afford to buy a decent yacht to have a boating accident in! 😎
  5. Start with whatever you can buy at low premiums. When you get duplicates, either resell them, or exchange them with other collectors, stackers, TSF members. Don't chase after rare ones to start with. Be flexible. Don't tie yourself down to a particular type or project, and reject others which might be a better buy. For example, many years ago, circa 1964, we found it difficult to get collectors to buy George III, George IV, and William IV, because they wanted to complete Victoria to date first. At the time pre-Victorias were cheap! Other collectors were reluctant to buy shield sovereoigns, because they preferred St. George, or because they wanted to complete their St. George set first. It used to be so frustrating to try to give people good, sound advice in their own interest, and get excuses why they were not ready to accept the advice. 😎
  6. I knew the first one, it was the second one I was after! 😎
  7. There are often 1917 London Mint sovereigns for sale on ebay and elsewhere, including local auction houses. Some of them may even be genuine, but I would not gamble on it! 😎
  8. If we ignore VAT for now, the premium on good delivery silver bars is much lower, but still typically a few percent. This will normally be higher than similar gold bars, because the melting, processing costs are simiilar for both metals, in actual cash terms, but disproportionately higher for silver precisely because of its much lower intrinsic value. Similar for shipping costs, storage costs, etc. Which is partly why gold is the more important investment / store of wealth option. Reintroduce VAT at 20% (or any other percentage), and gold is by far the better investment metal for most physical investors. And also why I say so here: https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/advice-guide-for-uk-bullion-investors/1041 😎
  9. So, what did they say (in a 10 second résumé), to save us having to read them both? 😎
  10. Did you read: Β£0.07 was cheap! Like any investment, timing is an important factor.
  11. But silver is looking cheap today (£16.19), compared with any time in the past 2 years, and also when looking at the Gold:Silver ratio this morning Gold:Silver Ratio 91.099 We bought 2000 ounces overnight as part of a hedge position, and I would be happy to see us add another 10,000 ouncesat these levels. Sure, it could go down further, in which case we would look to "overhedge" by buying more, but from here it is more likely to "recover" back to recent levels (over £20 back in March), so we could easily see £17 or £18 in the next few months. Even so, physical gold is probably still a better investment than physical silver. 😎
  12. In this context, does "PF" have a different meaning? ...and what about MS? 😎
  13. Don't let @SemolinaPilchard see this thread, otherwise we wil end up with fake Paul Storr, Hester Bateman, and William Chawner (I had to look him up) makers marks on our flatware. (He is a Photoshop ace). He might throw in Benvenuto Cellini as a freebie for good measure! 😎
  14. As the other responses suggest, this is very common. Kunker should have shown it as investment gold on any customs label they provided. It is worth asking them what they suggest, as they will have encountered the problem before, andit may help them to prventit in future. Otherwise I think most of the other comments are right. Good luck with it. Don't forget to post your progress and results here, for all to benefit from your experience. 😎
  15. It sounds like your's is, and possivly most local coin shops. There is a great one in Blackpool though. 😎
  16. I didn't see any, but @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer might look for some. 😎
  17. It's often a bad sign when you have to go looking for them... ... and can be a surprise when you find someone else's instead. You will get lots of different opinions here on TSF. If you don't like some of them, you can always chose others instead. 😎
  18. You certainly wouldn't get very far! 😎
  19. Sounds reasonable. Actually I was joking whenI asked "Did you pay"spot" price?", becauseyour coins had spots on them! There was a serious point also, that if you bought near spot, then you could not go far wrong. 😎
  20. Lots of topics get posted without the OP making it clear which metal they are primarily referrring to, so you are not alone. I make a habit of stating it in my titles to make it clear, but most topics diverge from their original point; some more than others. I also wrote an "Advice Guide for UK Bullion Investors" https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/advice-guide-for-uk-bullion-investors/1041 which should be helpful, and there are many links from it to many other questions. 😎 Of course! 😎
