  1. I hope it was not Boris Johnson! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  2. The 2022 Gold ยฃ5 Quintuple Sovereign Brilliant Uncirculated also look good in Matt Finish. Here be photos: ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  3. 2022 Gold ยฃ5 Quintuple Sovereign Brilliant Uncirculated Matt Finish- Photos I got to see these last week, and here are some photos: It may not be easy to discern from the photos that these are matt finish, but comparison with a bullion version gold sovereign or double sovereign would make it obvious. The matt finish does look better, and is likely to add to the long term appeal of these coins. Now, if only they were in yellow gold! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  4. Normally, the premium on double sovereigns is higher than on sovereigns. It just happens to be that one of Blackpool and the world's leading bullion dealers, has the 2022 DS at a slightly lower premium at the moment. (Until we sell out!) ... and just try buying a 2023! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  5. Research has confirmed that, especially in "double blind" tests. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  6. Pistrucci's "Sinking of the Titanic" medals are extremely rare, which is a great pity, as his prescience deserves to be better recognised, especially among groups with great experience of boating accidents. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  7. Lancashire's leading coin and bullion dealer always has gold for sale, 24/7. We even deal with Yorkshiremen... ... and Southerners! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  8. You're definitely working well there. It sounds like we need to get a few more cases of beer waiting! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  9. I was thinking of posting a response, but... Dicker was quicker! Besides, bullion sovereigns have been issued in about 200 different years, while bullion double sovereigns have only been issued in about 20, and the total mintage of double sovereigns is probably under a million, whereas total sovereign mintage is in excess of a billion! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  10. I completely understand and agree with all that. Although we do have the advantage of binocular vision. Doug also, I am sure. It was probably just time constraints. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  11. Photo Failure Frustration - 1912 London Mint Sovereign With Concave Exergue I was handed this sovereign recently with "weird" written on it packet. It appears to be a standard default description when someone sees something unusual: See anything? The obverse looks perfectly normal. Still nothing unusual apparent on this closer shot of the exergue area. Our photographer commented "Info re "concave exergue" I could see it in the hand but tried multiple angles and couldn't capture what I saw." It is not always possible to capture an effect we can see with the naked eye. I will see if we can try again, perhaps using different lighting. I might as well tag @SemolinaPilchard in here. He may be able to create a simple diagram to explain what we could all see. I wonder if using a macro flash would reveal the concave effect? ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  12. There are other differences if you look carefully. The larger gap between the portrait and the lettering should be obvious once you have noticed it for the first time. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  13. I think the microscope photos are off-colour mainly because of the difficulty of ensuring good lighting on subjects very close to the objective lens. Most of our shots with the excellent Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro Lens look rather brutal, and not very pretty. Sure, the 1863 sovereign on the right of the other shot does look very red. I would not be surprised by some colour variation in shield or other early sovereings, much may have depended on what they chose to alloy the gold with. It would be interesting to get a Niton XRF analysis on it. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  14. Yes, and he never even "slept" with her... ... or met her for that matter! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  15. Investing in Pokemon cards... ... sounds like an oxymorin to me... ... but then Princess Dianaโ€™s one-of-a-kind Ford Escort sells for ยฃ650,000 at auction As it was only about ยฃ8,500 new, it might qualify as a good investment. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  16. The photos have undoubtedly helped transform this from a pure guessing game. You have not mentioned what the mark is near the top of the clasp, and you photo is not good or clear enough to be able to read it. Also you don't mention if there are any other marks elsewhere which might provide more clues. Do you know what percentage of intrinsic your jewelers / jewellers are offering? There is little excuse for offering you 9ct price for 14ct, but then jewellers are hardly ever the best place to sell scrap gold, or to get good advice, parlty because most UK jewellers know very little about anything. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  17. I have now seen photos of the coin slabbed by NGC with a grade PF64: Restrike does not mean what it is used to mean on ebay (fake), and most of the proofs of this series are known to be restrikes, and rare. I do not have full information about them. I am still learning! It's a good job we got good photos before it was slabbed. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  18. Yes, but it's not quite as clean and easy as the sovereigns one: https://taxfreegold.co.uk/twopoundsindx.html Only goes up to 2013, and also includes some gold ยฃ2 coins which are not double sovereigns. Hopefully, it should fo the job for you though. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  19. Don't worry about it, just have some chocolate instead. I recommend 70% cocoa solids at minimum. Aztec Gold also shows up pretty well on XRF machines! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  20. You have to be careful when using flourescence instead of fluorescence. Unless you are using flour essence, wholemeal or otherwise. Using the wrong product will make your bread glow in the dark, and you end up with light sticks instead of bread sticks. If you try to measure flour essence using an XRF machines, when you see the results, you might go "Doh", or "Doe" ๐Ÿ˜Ž
