I think eventually some of the Silver Bullion Stackers will see the light.
If Silver takes off the only thing that matters is how many ounces you have got and not how pure it is or if it has a picture of a Panda or a Kookaburra on it.

Just spoken to ebay and they have confirmed Nectar can NOT be used on coin purchases, looks like they are blocking via categories / titles as I've tried using it on an empty box and that was blocked. So probably blocking using nectar vouchers on the whole of the Coin category regardless of whether its a coin or an old boot as long as it sits in there...
They just said its a nectar policy not ebay - so ill continue to use them for other stuff lol...

I would always choose silver flatware/Holloware over bullion coins or bars, if I can find it at the right price (and there's no VAT).
If I was in the market for a kilo of silver I'd buy a large Victorian salver👍

I buy govt issued silver coins (both bullion and old circulated) as do most on here. In addition to being a store of wealth, they can often be beautiful to look at as part of a collection. I would say I’m a collector more so than a stacker in that sense. I’m not prepping for Armageddon; I just enjoy the beauty of silver coins (and gold of course) and enjoy collecting them. The fact that they hold some intrinsic value in the form of precious metals is important as they will always be worth SOMETHING even if it’s just spot price. Other “collectibles” often wind up being worthless after a fad dies down but coins are an exception.

That said, I’m curious as to why sterling flatware doesn’t get more love from the overall silver community. I realize it’s only .925 fine but it is still sellable (often times close to spot and sometimes more for desirable patterns). Also, it’s practical. It’s something that can be used and enjoyed everyday so there is the usage value of it as well. All our flatware is sterling and we use it daily, put it in the dishwater, etc. So even if I needed to sell some of it years from now and only got spot for it, I was using and enjoying it for possibly decades as well.

With the extremely high premiums on many silver coins, I was thinking about this lately. Preowned silverware can often be found with less premiums than coinage/govt bullion and you get the added value of being able to use it. We all needs forks and spoons after all.

Yeah ditto that, and also for the words 'gay' ,'rainbow', 'cis', 'trans' etc...All these hijacked words and expressions which have been given new and sinister meanings by perverts of one variety or another really makes my blood boil..😡

I quite like Mike Maloney's method of investing in gold and silver. In theory it should ensure your purchasing of gold and silver would gain value over the long term more efficiently.
His method on deciding to buy is based on the gold silver ratio in the following bands
under 50 - buys gold only
    50 - 60 - buys 75% gold 25% silver
    60 - 70 - buys 50% gold 50% silver
    70 - 80 - Buys 25% gold 75% silver
over 80 - Buys silver only
It seems to have worked well for him, seems like a good frame work to play with to sute your personal situation.
If your feeling bold you could trade your gold and silver stacks to build your purchasing power using the gold silver ratio as a rough guide.
My view is to hold any PM purchase for the long term (5+ years) to get the best from it.

If you don't want to buy scrap Silver which is the cheapest way but hard work then I would use Bullionvault to buy Silver then sell it to buy Physical Gold when the Gold/ Silver ratio drops.
Vat and the Premiums on Physical Silver in the UK make it uninvestable in my opinion.

Invest in silver if you want to speculate.  It is said by many to have greater upside potential.  Do not buy it if your goal is to grow your wealth in the short-medium term.
Buy gold if you want a more reliable way to preserve your purchasing power over time.
Silver can quickly take up a good amount of space.  Gold usually doesn't.

I've never sold on eBay but there has been perhaps three instances where I put the highest bid with like 20 seconds to go only to have had the bid blocked by them. So the item has gone for substantially less. I can't see how that's fair on the sellers at all. They're making less money which is why I guess they keep all of these 'policies' under wraps and you only get an idea of what's happening through other users discussing matters on the forums.
Like @andrewse said, contacting them is next to useless.

    I don't know whether it's a glitch or a permanent thing.
I was getting money off through the Nectar vouchers and Topcashback as well.
If this loophole has been closed then eBay is pretty much useless to me as I have also stopped selling on there as I was getting very few views on my items.

I used to use the Nectar promotions and buy the odd coin but then eBay started blocking bids I made so I lost out a bunch of times. Perfect feedback, always paid on time, and same account for over 20 years. I was told it was for my own safety - the usual nonsense because they didn't block any high value purchases outside of the metals. Only ever happens with the metals. Dug a little deeper - happening to a lot of people.
Back to Nectar - my Nectar card was then disconnected from my account. Again, no reason given. Have to contact Nectar/Sainsbury's and just can't be bothered anymore so I guess that suits them fine.

When I first started stacking I used to buy Silver from Sarnia Silver in Guernsey.
If I remember correctly you didn't get charged VAT on items under £20 from Guernsey, so you had to buy single Coins.
    Happy days!

FriedrichVonHayek reacted to stefffana in I presume I can't ever buy a coin off ebay ever again?🤔
    Hi, Tony.
Asking the seller for weight won't help, to be honest. A genuine and good seller will describe the coin very accurately, a scammer will try to hide the truth, showing eventually a blurred picture on a kitchen scale, pretending that have not a precise one.
Yes, Ebay it is a jungle, a scary market place, a bad famed neighbourhood. But... I LOVE IT !!!
Almost all my silver and gold is from Ebay, but are 100% genuine. My very first purchase of course, was an electronic scale, a caliper and a kit test for silver and gold.
If you have minimal knowledge, you can spot very easy any counterfeits. Do a gravity test for silver coins, rounds and bars, and if you are still in doubt, put some acid. Scratch until you can see the brass or copper. Open a case, make some pictures to prove and you will have money back from Ebay very quick. ( Happened with me few times )
I am buying mostly circulated silver coins, obscure gold proof coins, old solid silver flatware any purity and pre-owned carat gold jewellery.  So far, so good. But I am bidding mostly from sellers who are selling mostly gold and silver, not shoes and t-shirts, with a good selling history. I try also to avoid buying coins well known as heavily replicated.
Yes, I enjoy hunting in the Ebay jungle, but I know what I am doing.
    Cheers, 🤗
    Stefan.
