  1. Finally got my Odin 2oz Niue $5 but the catch on the box doesn't work so the lid doesn't stay shut if you don't watch what you're doing.  I really can't be bothered sending it all the way back to Switzerland.I've had no luck today as I also received a half sov from HGM that has a dint and marks from where it was mounted in some piece of jewelry.  I wouldn't mind so much if they hadn't charged a premium for it being a shield back and a jubilee head at that.  I wouldn't have bought it if I knew either of those things but you just have to jump at shield backs on the HGM site as they go within minutes.  A number have kept popping up on HGM lately so I wonder if someone else kept buying then cancelling when they found out the details?

  2. Between $13 and $17.50 is a fairly wide and safe margin to call.

They don't like giving short term predictions - because it's too easy to get them wrong and they have as little idea as most people.  At least with longer term predictions there is a much higher chance that gold/silver is going to hit the price you predict at some point as long as you don't predict a crazily high or low price.

  3. I tend to stay away from Sunday evening ending ebay auctions as I have noticed this seems to be one of the most expensive times to win an auction.  A nice midweek morning end is much easier to win.

I also don't like buy it nows for coins in general as even people who seem to trade as coin dealers often misrepresent items and/or over grade terribly.  Then they ask top book price or above for their overgraded coins.  I've lost count of the number of Unc or almost uncirculated coins I've seen that are really very worn and polished coins that are barely over Fine.

  4. I bought the Niue odin 2oz 2016 today.  A bit expensive but I liked the design beside the queens head, lol.

Also another Aussie wedge tail proof and the Rwanda meerkat.

Also another half sov, the last year of Queen Vics reign.

I like he St George and have looked to buy one now and then but they can be hard to find at a decent price.

Picked up this 1852 2.5$ Liberty head. Dealer in Holland. Used top cashback and sending to USA.

770 estimated to have survived across all grades.

Weird that the available number should be so low given the mintage was over a 1.1 million and that the ngc site says it's one of the more readily available 2.5 dollar liberty heads.  It looks in quite good condition anyway so must have cost a bit.

Too much over spot for me to collect I'm afraid!. :)

Just put in a lower offer for a silver French lunar rabbit on ebay and it got accepted.

Going for the complete series but they don't pop up that often.

I have bought the odd one but only if I can get it for less than £20.  Far too many people expect up to £70 for them.

Bought from coininvest yet again even though the postage makes it too expensive to buy a single small coin.  A 1914 Belgian 20 franc.  I only bought it so I had at least one minted under each king.

  7. I wanted to collect crowns as a kid but couldn't afford to so ended up collecting silver threepenny pieces.

Received a Louis Napoleon 20 franc coin from HGM today. They said they had two Napoleons, an Angel and a cockerel. I thought the angel would probably be worth a little more but lucked out getting the single year design 1852 Louis Napoleon when I asked for a Napoleon in the rare chance I would receive a Naploeon I.

Last weeks pot luck 20 franc from them gave me a Ceres head 1850 so I know I have 1850,1851 and 1852 20 franc coins off the top of my head and may have an even longer date run if I investigate my stash.

  8. Can't sleep must buy gold!

Side question, does anybody know how long orders take from Aurinum once dispatched? The tracking link does not work

It can take a week or more. I have had the wrong item sent before then a damaged encap but they did get back to me in the end and offered to swap out the give me a discount on the correct one so it would cost a bit less in total.

  9. Just made another small order to go with the one i made at the weekend.

I see atkinsons stopped taking orders online and now the site is down.

Unluckily i must have ordered during a little increase as between hitting accept my order and receiving the bill the price went up a bit. Thankfully it was only a small order to try out s-t-g since i have never used them before. I'd have been a bit peeved if it was an order for 100 oz or something. They shouldn't be able to do that really as when you accept a deal at price X you don't expect a demand for price X+y once the deal has gone through.

I don't understand why they can't operate like other sellers e.g. Bairds who fix the price and give you a clock with how many minutes you have before the offer is void.
