  1. His wife is Australian. She will be queen!
  2. They don't have a coronation in Denmark. As their new queen is an Aussie perhaps the Perth mint will issue a special coin.
  3. I see Atkinsons are taking orders tomorrow for the sovereign. Don't know if they are officially issued tomorrow as it says pre:order.
  4. They tried to milk the market after the success of the Jubilee Sovereign with much higher prices and flooded it with larger volumes. I know that the price of gold and production costs have risen but the price of the 2024 proof is already high. The prospect of £800 is ridiculous. The birthday sotd can still be bought at issue price at BBP despite only 850 being issued and being the only 2023 sovereign to have a bare head king.
  5. Agree about leaving it alone with one exception. Change the colour back to yellow gold. If they are asking the question it might be that the constant complaints are getting through. Problem is that someone in marketing see's all these adverts offering different types of sovereigns from God knows where and raking in the cash. So they think they could do with a share of that market. Just look at how Royal Mail has gone. Stamps no longer issued in moderation for real anniversaries. They milk the market. Royal Mint already does some of this so to the mind of some executive extending it to sovereigns makes financial sense. They can't understand it from a collectors point of view because they only know the business from the short term economic point of view.
  6. 400 years since the first house was built on the site. A bit tenuous though.
  7. Interesting that the Churchill coin doesn't have an individual release date and is intended for various sets, whatever they maybe.
  8. Any struck on the day sovereigns planned?
  9. Don't give RM any more ideas on how to make even money out of collectors. It's bad enough with 2 portraits without a third.
  10. Sounds a good deal if it's not made of lead.
  11. I thought they said that the crowned head would be for special royal occasions and as you say it's difficult to see what they might be in the next 10 years, apart from maybe the 80th birthday in 2028. However I'm sure RM will find something 'significant'.
  12. To my mind normal is the definitive head obverse plus George and the Dragon reverse and it's irrelevant whether it is a proof, special BU or bullion. But everyone has their own opinion....
  13. Technically the first 'normal sovereign' is the 75th birthday BU sovereign. Uncrowned head with George and the dragon reverse with a 2023 date. RM are selling the 2024 proof as first time that combination has been on a proof. Presume they'll try and market it the same on the bullion.
  14. £710 to be exact and you didn't mention the free postage. 🤣 On a more serious note I see they are presently selling the memorial proof sovereign at £660 - £35 less than this time last year. So £680 isn't that facetious.

    Jesus coin

If it belonged to Harald Hardrada half of Yorkshire will be digging up Stamford Bridge to see if there are any more.
  16. Careful. We don't want everyone moving north to spoil the quality of life we enjoy. 🤣
  17. Surprisingly looks like RM might have sold them quicker than I thought. It says request stock update which usually means they will reappear only with cancellations. BBP still have 10 of the SOTD sovereigns at issue price.
  18. There's only a 100 sets. I think they'll sell them all even if it takes a bit of time. Can't see them melting down any of the sotd sovereigns.
  19. Be interesting to see what design they use. St George using a spear rather than a sword.
  20. They could always do a different proof and a normal bullion I suppose. I can also see them doing a privy mark on a BU version to make a few bob.
  21. Spot on with them using the remainders as part of a presentation box if not exactly the way you thought. 👍
