  1. I've read a few threads on here about this happening lately.  Seems to be quite a few banks.  And quite a few retailers.  Has made me very cautious about trying to buy from a 'new' site now, or even sellers on here.  I'm hoping accounts I've paid before wouldn't suddenly become blocked.

I have recently opened a dispute with my bank about a retailer (not ATS lol, this one wasn't my fault!) and I am now wondering if that may cause other peoples payments from my bank to that retailer to get blocked during or after the resolution period. 🤔

  2. If you're just selling to a dealer for around spot price then it shouldn't matter.

If selling privately, I find 1oz silver and 1/10th gold sells easiest, presumably down to affordability.  Anything with a great design & quality should sell easily - Perth mint & China Panda's for example.

Pop culture can sell well but maybe not by the time your sons inherit them so best to stick to animals instead.

  3. Even without the error, the finish on these is pretty rough, I've seen quite a few milky ones already as well.

Shame as it's meant to be a nice reminder of a one-off occasion, as opposed to something like a Brit that looks the same for years on end.

They should have asked Perth mint to produce them! 😄   Would probably have added a nice frosted background to make the design pop too!

  4. I had to laugh at a homemade COA I was provided with last year.  Bought the coin as it was cheap enough to gamble on.  The COA is literally just a business card with a copy & paste image and a random signature, plus a holographic sticker that can be bought in their hundreds from eBay or Amazon.  The seller couldn't even be bothered to use the correct sized capsule, it's massively oversized.  The coin itself does appear to be genuine, but if I ever get a Sigma, I won't be surprised if it isn't.

I like a COA from well known retailers in a box with a proof coin, but for anything else, I don't put any faith in a COA.  I also have a few autographs with homemade COA's and wouldn't trust those either.

  5. Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 1953 Canada silver dollar.

It will be a gift so needs to be in good condition, preferably minimal wear and tarnishing, and would be a bonus if it came well presented in a fitted capsule.

Not in any rush for this one but budget is limited.

I don't get much time on the forum at the moment so please drop me a private message and I'll get back to you within 24 hours.

    Thanks

i ordered a superman chibi recwenlty and it came via fedex.though they paid the taxes for me which was about £18 so woudnlt do it again.... about £90 all in for the coin... very cool coin though:)

Thanks for the courier confirmation.  In the end I decided I couldn't justify the cost for a new one with the VAT as well.  They are nice coins but I think they've pushed the premium too far on them.  I'll keep an eye out for a second hand one instead. 🙂

  7. If it's a choice between a half sov or 6 silver Britannia's then I'd just go for the half sov.  Better value for money.  Takes up less storage space.

If you want to collect something with visual interest and different designs, then 6oz of various silver could give you more enjoyment.  Afterall, one tiny half sov isn't much to look at.

I have a bit of both myself. 🙂

  8. I got my 1oz silver Coro proof a couple of weeks ago.  Was a longer wait than expected.

Think I prefer the bullion version though, seems like a clearer, less cluttered design.  I've just seen that the 1oz silver bullion is expected to arrive at SilverTrader this week.  As long as they're not far off £30, I'll probably grab one of those.

On a slight tangent, I also received a 2022 proof 50p that I'd ordered many months ago.  But am baffled by it having a very low certificate number.  200 odd.  I saw them on eBay with numbers over 1000 at the beginning of this year. 🤔  I had assumed the numbers would all be roughly in dispatch order so not sure if this is just a one-off or not.

  9. Found this thread really interesting.  I've bought a few graded coins and was considering potentially having some graded myself in future.  Had no idea just how much paperwork was involved before even sending the coins.  Think I'll probably just stick to buying them ready done! 😐
